There are many people who consider the XIIIth century Château de Bagnols, with its luxury rating, to be the most beautiful château-hotels in the world.
Its moats, surrounding walls, towers and golden stones highlight its aristocratic past and transports you on a unique journey through France’s history. Surrounded by vines and set amid splendid French style gardens, the château offers exceptional facilities: a roman pool, a beautiful restaurant and stunning reception rooms.
The interior of the château is the brainchild of a remarkably talented and artistic woman, Lady Helen Hamlyn, who made the restoration her masterpiece. The rooms in both the original 13th-century castle and the 'new' annexe (i.e: 15th-century) block are beautiful. Historical four posters, decorated with fragile antique textiles and made up with tactile Swiss bed linen are found in certain suites and apartments. Little touches such as the water tumblers made of silver next to your bed, stunning bathrooms with antique marble baths and beautiful toiletries all create a feeling of absolute luxury and days gone by. Some suites have sitting rooms, filled with comfortable sofas, objets d'art, antique furniture and in some rooms you will find corners and ceilings with beautiful frescoes. Luxurious hangings and furnishes in the original chateau compliment the more contemporary furnishings of the equally stunning annexe rooms and suites and many of the rooms have wonderful views over the surrounding countryside or castle courtyard.
The kitchens are central to the building you walk through them on your way to anywhere, past the teeming, theatre of their chefs at work. The restaurant, housed in the majestic Salle des Gardes, offers its guests traditional local cuisine with a contemporary twist, inspired by the quality and abundance of the produce of the local markets. The beautiful tableware and glassware have been specially designed and created for the Château and there are few more romantic places for dinner.
Everywhere you look you are surrounded by beautiful grounds and views, the surrounding gardens are stuffed with dense borders of lavender and flowers. There are also formal garden bowers where you can enjoy drinks before dinner. The swimming pool is round, with grass growing right up to its edge surrounded by the same relaxing views over the vines.
