Average time to visit
It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a remote pub with a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the country.

A 10-bedroom lodge located in the grounds of the famous Goodwood estate, Hound Lodge is the perfect place for celebrations or family gatherings. A real home away from home, here you'll experience the quintessential English countryside retreat.
Purchased by the Duke of Richmond in the 17th century and home to the first major foxhunt, Hound Lodge has since been transformed from palatial kennel to luxurious country retreat. Although the main focus is now on human guests, dogs are still very much welcome and are integral to the history and fabric of the lodge.
With the elegance and style of a traditional country house, Hound Lodge has also been designed with comfort in mind, from the sheep's wool eiderdowns to the hot water bottles waiting in beds at the end of the day. Each of the individually-decorated rooms is a haven of tranquillity, complete with plush armchairs and miniature whisky decanters. Guests need simply ring the bell in their room and the private butler will be on hand for any requests, large or small.
The drawing room is the warm and welcoming heart of Hound Lodge, where afternoon tea is served on arrival and guests can relax on comfortable sofas beside the roaring fire in this home away from home. Pictures depicting the history of Goodwood and Hound Lodge line the walls and dogs can be found throughout the room in ornaments, statues and paintings. This is the perfect place to sink into an armchair with a good book, a board game or a pre-dinner tipple from the drinks trolley.
In the dining room, enjoy meals sat around the impressive Georgian dining table. The menus consist of classic, home-cooked fare which makes the most of seasonal produce and ingredients from Goodwood's own organic farm. The homely meals are enhanced by wine pairings and followed by cheese, port and after-dinner coffee in the drawing room.
Hidden away on the Goodwood estate, Hound Lodge is surrounded by picturesque woodland, where there are several paths offering delightful countryside walks. Guests looking for a more active stay can try their hand at clay pigeon shooting, golf or even racing around Goodwood's famous motor circuit before returning to the lodge to unwind in the utmost style.
The ten bedrooms at Hound Lodge are individually decorated, each in a fresh and light country style with antique furnishings throughout. Each of the ten charming rooms is named after one of the Duke of Richmond's dogs and provides homely touches such as hot water bottles and mini whisky decanters. Cosy eiderdowns and plush armchairs ensure each guest's stay is of the utmost comfort, and some rooms offer private outdoor terraces. The bedrooms are all en-suite, each bathroom offering free-standing roll-top baths, large walk-in showers and natural products from Gordon Castle.
Children are more than welcome at Hound Lodge, however there are no specific childcare facilities.
Hound Lodge benefits from a private chef and round-the-clock butler service.
Meals are served in Hound Lodge's elegant dining room, where guests sit around the long Georgian dining table used by royalty. The lodge's chef serves up simple yet delicious home-cooked fare using estate-reared meats and seasonal produce from the Goodwood Home Farm, one of Europe's only self-sustaining organic farms.
As Goodwood estate is known for its sporting events and outdoor pursuits, the activities are endless at Hound Lodge. Speed around Goodwood Motor Circuit in a classic racing car or take to the skies in your own private flying lesson, or for something slower-paced enjoy a round of golf on one of the estate's Championship courses. Alternatively, guests looking for something a little more relaxing can explore the estate's picturesque woodland or make full use of the leisure facilities at the nearby Goodwood Hotel.
