Description

Combining sailing with skiing in Norway is a genius idea and Firebird Ski & Sail does this with great expertise. Sailing to a different location every day guests experience some of Europe's finest off-piste skiing complemented with spectacular scenery.

Say goodbye to lift queues and crowded slopes and hello to skiing in quality powder, down magnificent and scenic descents as well as sailing in a luxurious floating chalet with a 360 degree view of the stunning Nordic scenery. Accompanied by an IFMGA guide a typical itinerary would mean skiing in a different location every day, exploring the region of Tromso, the Lyngen Alps and the surrounding Fjords. Itineraries can be tailored depending on skill level and any other activities desired such as whale watching, ice climbing, dog sledding and snowshoeing or visiting distilleries, museums or various historical sites and, of course, catches glimpses of the breath-taking Aurora Borealis.

A unique skiers' paradise, the natural beauty of the mountains descending into crystal clear blue waters makes it easy to see why the Lyngen Alps of northern Norway have been consistently voted one of the best off-piste skiing destinations in the world.

Comfort is taken seriously onboard the Firebird yacht with the large cockpit being fully enclosed and heated, guests are offered slippers and cashmere blankets making that morning coffee ever so special as you sit on deck in awe as the sun rises behind the snow covered arctic peaks. Each cabin has a heating system that can be controlled individually and an 8-pair boot heater will ensure your boots are wonderfully warm and dry when you're ready to go.

Skiing the Norwegian Arctic Circle is a clear bucket list item for serious skiers with a real sense of adventure. Traveling by boat allows access to some seriously off the beaten track places to give a true sense of pioneering in scenery that is just sensational. The absence of any kind of lifts – no chairlifts, helicopters or snowmobiles - guarantees peace and quiet and untracked snow, but also means that a good level of fitness is essential and an excellent level will make this trip a lot more enjoyable. Ski-touring equipment can be rented in Tromso on arrival and the routes can be adapted for first-time or experienced ski-tourers. Every type of terrain is available from long, gentle pitches to steep and scary alpine style couloirs – the on-board ski guide assesses your ability before recommending routes that strike the right balance between challenging and providing whooping descents.

A complete ban on helicopter and snowmobile-assisted accents ensures tranquility and pristine powder for a true appreciation of this spectacular wilderness. There are numerous ski touring routes, with at least 100 of them being marked, meaning the terrain caters for skiers or all levels and abilities

Firebird is an incredible yacht to use as a skiing base and gives the opportunity for some spectacular sailing from one site to the next. Passages are undertaken overnight or in the afternoons to leave the mornings free for skiing. Afternoons offer guilt-free laziness reading books, watching films or playing games while resting weary legs and enjoying the steady stream of drinks and delicious, energy-boosting meals and snacks provided by the friendly crew.
