No 13 is a quirky boutique hotel located a stone’s throw from Byrggen harbor. This fun hotel has just 34 rooms, of which the Skylight Suite is the most spectacular. The restaurant is unusual for such a small hotel as it serves up delicious tasting menus at both lunch and dinner.
Hotel No 13 is one of Clarion’s newest additions to their collection in Bergen. It is a contemporary boutique hotel in a fantastic location just moments from the city’s main shopping street and a short walk to many other attractions.
The décor is less Scandinavian and more bright and cheery boutique city hotel with chic dark wooden floors complimented by colorful bed spreads, curtains, cushions and other furnishings. The 34 rooms are good sizes with comfortable twin or double beds and there are some connecting options. Bathrooms are modern and well appointed. Many are open plan with the bedroom and have excellent showers, some have baths as well.
The Skylight Room, as the name suggests, has an impressive skylight that stretches the full width of the bedroom, flooding the room with light during the day and allowing for star gazing at night.
No 13 has an excellent restaurant that serves a different 3 course light set lunch and 4 course dinner every day, and with them the most delicious 5 day aged sourdough bread and homemade butter. Each course is interesting and creative with dishes taken from around the world and then Norwegian-ised by local and seasonal ingredients of a very high quality - organic where possible.
Furthermore, every day between 3 and 6 pm complimentary afternoon tea is on offer for hotel guests which includes famous Norwegian waffles; and if you fancy a light dinner, you can help yourself to soup, bread, meats and cheese between 6 and 9pm.
The hotel staff are absolutely wonderful; welcoming and friendly and really will go above and beyond to ensure you have the perfect stay, so although there are no five star spa facilities, you certainly feel like you’re being pampered.
Although a member of the Clarion Hotel chain, No 13 still manages to exude a charm and ambience of a true boutique hotel. Located on a busy shopping street, you are perfectly placed for sniffing out a Norwegian designer piece, be it for home or to wear, and you can amble down to the harbor too to explore the fish market and ancient wooden buildings the city is famous for.
Each room is sizeable and brightly decorated with comfortable beds, city views, some with showers and others with baths. The Skylight Suite is the standout with large skylight windows allowing daylight to flood in and star gazing at night. Complimentary WiFi available throughout.
These brightly colored, modern rooms come fitted with a large double bed as well as minibar, TV, telephone and a safety box. The bathroom comes complete with shower.
Superior double rooms come complete with minibar, TV, bathroom with shower and a desk. The room sleeps up to 2 and has views over the shopping street below.
Deluxe Doubles are spacious and bathrooms come fitted with both bathtubs and separate shower. Half enjoy views over the rear courtyard whilst half boasts views of the shopping street below.
The standout feature of the suite is the expansive skylight which spans the ceiling above the king-size bed for night time stargazing. The design of the suite is completely unique, with modern furnishings and charming sloped ceilings. the bathroom comes with both shower and a bath.
Set menus are served in the hotel restaurant; 3 courses for lunch and 5 courses for dinner. Ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal and dishes are imaginative, inspired by the Norwegian fjords with interesting twists. Complimentary afternoon tea and a light dinner buffet are on offer daily.
Free WiFi access is provided throughout the hotel. Paid parking is also available at the property. There are even pet friendly rooms available.

I loved No 13's relaxed atmosphere, sublime food and the live piano player on Friday evenings. This is a real haven for a couple looking for somewhere fun and chilled out. The hotel is simple in that you enter the lobby cum bar cum restaurant area which also features the lift taking you to the bedroom floors. But the lack of space is more than made up for by the exceptional quality of the food served, the contemporary decor and the friendliness of the staff.

This is great boutique city hotel, with comfortable and spacious bedrooms and a quirky design. The three course set lunch menu was absolutely delicious and I was very impressed that it changes on a daily basis. The staff were really charming and will go out of their way to ensure you have the perfect stay.
