Augustine is located in Prague's Malá Strana, a district steeped in history and stunning architecture. Seven buildings linked around picturesque gardens make up this dramatic property, the oldest part of which - the Augustinian St Thomas’s Monastery - was built in the thirteenth century. Several practising monks are still in residence nearby and can sometimes be seen sharing the landscaped grounds with guests.
Living quarters are considerably more comfortable these days, with 101 beautifully finished bedrooms and suites. Stylish and comfortable, the rooms have been sympathetically converted with vaulted ceilings and iron doors giving a nod to the building's past. The Tower Suite is the cream of the crop: a three-floor space with panoramic city views located in the monastery’s original tower.
Along with an award-winning restaurant the hotel also has two watering holes, a relaxed cafe & bar as well as the St Thomas Brewery Bar, which was once the cellar of the original St Thomas brewery. The resident stalactites and stalagmites stand testament to centuries of use and the place is still a favorite local haunt.
Prague is a lively capital with a medieval center of cobbled lanes and courtyards, old churches, an ancient castle, traditional taverns, gourmet restaurants and vibrant bars. If you can tear yourself away from the hotel, Prague Castle, the famous Charles Bridge and the Wallenstein Garden are all within easy reach. The latter plays host to classical open-air concerts which are held between April and October.
All 101 bedrooms are individually designed and boast dramatic views over the internal courtyards, the monastery chapel or the Prague Castle. Mod-cons include a flat-screen television, iPod docking station, CD / DVD player, security safe, portable professional hairdryer, 100% linen sheets with anti-allergic pillows and blankets upon request, and plenty of storage space. Along with a well-stocked in room bar and snack basket, 24-hour room service is also available.
Of the 16 suites, all feature a range of complimentary services including Continental buffet breakfast, unpacking and packing service, pressing of garments for the evening of arrival, use of a NOKIA mobile phone for all local calls and complimentary local calls from your suite, Internet access and in-house movies. In-room check-in is also available. The marble bathroom in each suite offers heated floors, music sound system, telephone line, a separate step-in shower.
One of the most spectacular rooms is the Tower Suite set over three floors in monastery’s original tower and offers 360 degree view of the Golden City. The best view of Prague Castle is from the Deluxe Castle View Suite.
The hotel offers a range of child-friendly tours and activities as well as a babysitting service, charged at an hourly rate. Cots are complimentary and the hotel provides children's' bathrobes, slippers and bath products. Toys, board games, bottle warmers, baby baths, nappy stacker with "Pampers" nappies and nappy changing mats are also available on request.
Elegantes is housed in a glass-covered courtyard that, uniquely, incorporates three listed trees; it offers a sophisticated European menu including local Czech specialties. With its door-to-ceiling windows overlooking a spacious terrace, the restaurant is a light, relaxing space in the heart of historic Prague. The combination of excellent service and calm ambiance creates a truly memorable dining experience. In summer, al fresco dining on the terrace adds another elegant element to the restaurant.
Highlights of the Elegantes menu include dishes created with the hotel’s own St Thomas Beer, accompanied by an international and innovative wine list that challenges diners to try something new.
The restaurant adheres to a smart dress code and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
1887 bar is located in a delightful barrel-vaulted hall that was once the monastery refectory. The bar features high ceilings with carefully restored 19th century baroque frescoes and there is outside seating under cloistered terraces during the warmer months. 1887 bar now offers hand-crafted cocktails specially created by award winning mixologists, including the bar’s signature “Angel Cocktail”.
St Thomas Brewery Bar is a popular meeting place for locals and is available for groups to hire in its entirety as a characterful and inimitable venue. The atmospheric basement bar features original 17th century stalactites and stalagmites and terracotta.
