Description

Kia Ora Resort and Spa is located on the island of Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Archipelago. Set betweeen the passes of Avatoru and Tiputa, the hotel sits on a crystalline lagoon, the largest in French Polynesia.

Rangiroa is made up of a number of tiny islets surrounding a central lagoon and is renowned for its rich scuba diving. More than just a diving resort though, the recently renovated hotel offers comfortable contemporary style accommodations, ideal for a relaxed stay.

With just 60 rooms in total, the hotel has an intimate and private atmosphere. Spend your days relaxing on the beach or swimming in the crystal clear lagoon, or explore further afield. With world class diving at your fingertips the underwater experience is exceptional. Depending on the time of year it is possible to view hammerhead sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, grey sharks and schools of barracuda, turtle, oceanic sharks and dolphins. Even those who don't dive can enjoy the underwater world by glass bottom boat or by snorkeling.

The hotel offers a relaxed atmosphere in the evening with occasional Polynesian Evenings, beach barbecues or simply an intimate dinner for two or a sunset cocktail at the Miki Miki Overwater Bar.

An hour across the lagoon you will find the sister property of Kia Ora - The Sauvage Private Island. With just five beach bungalows, this truly is a Robinson Crusoe style retreat. With a main "Fare" featuring a lounge, bar and restaurant, a few days in the simplicity of this private piece of paradise is sure to delight. A stay here can be added on to your stay at the Hotel Kia Ora. Accommodation is simple and the experience a complete get away from it all.

Your evening entertainment is a glorious sunset followed by gazing up at a blanket of stars in the night sky. During the day, swim in the lagoon, take a stroll on the pure white sand and relax under a palm tree. The Sauvage Private Island only takes children aged over eight years.

When to go

Although there is a wet and a dry season in Tikehau the weather is tropical and generally sunny and warm, with just enough rain to keep the lush landscapes alive and green. If you're looking for emptier beaches, try traveling during the wet or "off" season, which generally runs from November to April. During this time, you can expect very high humidity with brief and frequent storms. January is the rainiest of the months. During this time, tropical storms may occur, but the Tahitian Islands have not experienced a cyclone since the early 90s. If you're traveling to the islands to scuba, you'll probably want to go in the dry or "high" season, when visibility is the best. The dry season runs from May to October and you can expect less rain, although occasional night time downpours are not uncommon. Due to tradewinds, July and August are the coolest times of the year and also tend to be the most crowded.
