Lime Tree Lodge is a 10-minute drive from the center of Wanaka and just over an hour's drive south to Queenstown. The Lodge is absolutely charming and run by delightful hosts, Pauline and John, who really make your stay here very special. Go on beautiful country walks, make a day trip to Queenstown, or simply relax by the lodge's outdoor swimming pool.

The Lodge is made up of six rooms and suites, however, for extra space, opt for either the Linden Suite or Black Peak Suite. All rooms are located within the main lodge itself, except for the Black Peak Suite which is a private two-bedroom cottage next door to the main lodge, and a great choice for families with one child aged 10 years or older.

In terms of dining, the lodge operates on a Bed & Breakfast board, with breakfast served in the open plan kitchen and dining room in the main lodge around a communal table. In fact, a stay at Lime Tree Lodge is very much a communal affair and is for guests who want to meet others during their vacation and really get to know their New Zealand hosts. The lodge is not for those who are wanting something very private and exclusive.

Whilst at Lime Tree Lodge, expect to make use of the outdoor swimming pool, which is heated throughout the summer; enjoy delicious canapés and locally sourced wine in the cosy sitting room; or have a game of croquet on the property's lawn.

Elsewhere in Wanaka, there's lots to see and do, including helicopter trips to the Fjords (the lodge has its own helipad), mountain biking and scenic hikes.

There are four rooms and two elegant suites at Lime Tree Lodge, making it a intimate and relaxing place to stay in Wanaka. Each room is spacious and light and features lime-infused bathroom products. The Black Peak Suite in particular is perfect for families as it has two bedrooms as well as a open-plan living area.

Children are welcome at Lime Tree Lodge and the friendly staff will make sure younger guests are well looked after.

Lime Tree Lodge is run by friendly owners Pauline and John who will ensure guests make the most of this fabulous destination. Enjoy relaxing by the log fire or if its warm, lazing by the pool. Enjoy a hearty breakfast to fuel your day before heading out including fresh eggs from the resident hens. Cake is served for afternoon tea and later enjoy some wine and cheese by the fire before a sumptuous dinner.

Like all of New Zealand, Wanaka has plenty to offer those who love the great outdoors and want to stay active. Choose from a scenic cruise on the Lake, try some fishing or venture into the surrounding hills and mountains on a hike or mountain biking. During the ski season, there is also the chance to hit the slopes. Alternatively, wine tours can be arranged as well as tours into nearby Queenstown.

Wanaka, Central Otago and the Southern Lakes, New Zealand

Located in a rural area just before Wanaka town itself, Limetere Lodge is just a ten minute drive from the town center and lake.

When to go

The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.

Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.
