Orion is Australia’s only luxury Expedition Cruise line. Orion is a purpose built vessel designed to access the inaccessible, all in 5-star luxury. The ship combines the best and the latest in design with maritime and environmental technology, comfort and casual elegance. Her luxurious appointments mean she is more mega-yacht than cruise ship and her guests are few; just 50 couples, all cared for in comfort by a crew of 75.
Orion sails year round from Australia - to the Continent of Antarctica in December and January, to the beautiful and remote islands of Papua New Guinea and the Solomons in March, October and November, along the stunning Kimberley Coastline in Northwest Australia from April to September. In between she operates unique itineraries to Tasmania and Melanesia and in the shoulder season when the weather is perfect for exploring the Great Barrier Reef, Orion offers several cruises that visit these exclusive islands and reefs. More than anything else, Orion’s itineraries present "a path less traveled..."
Orion has just 31 Suites and 22 Staterooms all with marble bathrooms and TV/DVD/CDs. Staterooms have large oval windows and a small seating area and the 19 Junior Suites have the addition of a two seater sofa, large rectangular window, and two Deluxe Suites also have an open plan living room. If you want to let the outside in, six luxurious Balcony Suites have an open plan living room, floor to ceiling sliding doors opening onto a private French balcony allowing the sea breeze in.
The Orion Expedition Cruise is not particularly well suited for children and although children over the age of two are permitted on board, the ship has no facilities for them.
Facilities on board are endless. The Constellation Restaurant serves wonderful cuisine in a relaxed, sophisticated setting and there is an outdoor cafe for casual, alfresco meals. There are two bars, a library, boutique, hair and beauty salon, Jacuzzi, lecture theatre, galaxy observation lounge, Vega health spa with sauna, gym and massage/spa treatments and a fleet of ten inflatable two-man kayaks, goggles, snorkels and fins.
Your stay on board Orion includes all of your food, boat transfers, non d watersports and lectures. Excursions and helicopter tours can be arranged at an additional cost.

When to go
This part of Australia has a very distinct wet season between December and March, and although this can be spectacular in terms of wildlife the build up to the rains can be uncomfortably humid.
