To start planning your vacation to Tussie Mussie Vineyard Retreat
Tussie Mussie Vineyard Retreat promises a luxurious escape to a private estate that's a little piece of Provence on the Mornington Peninsula. Once a commercial rose farm, this 28 acre property was inspired by the rustic charm and beauty of the owner's historic farmhouse in Provence's Luberon Valley, and they have brought evocative but understated French flair to Tussie Mussie's interior design.
Committed to recapturing the rural idyll of Provence, seven acres of the grounds are planted with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris alongside lush vegetable and herb gardens. As the wrought iron gates glide open, and the long driveway flanked by vines and olive trees reveals the retreat set in superb gardens, terraces and manicured lawns, with rose gardens and vineyards beyond.
The entire estate can be booked for up to 14 friends or family members, or you can book separately the sumptuous four bedroom Vineyard Lodge, romantic two-bedroom Vineyard Cottage or the charming Old Laundry, an intimate and individual suite for two.
Each guest room opens out to its own private garden or peaceful terrace, with a table and chairs ready for a lazy breakfast for two. Privacy is assured even if you're staying with a group, so you can settle down with a freshly made coffee and catch up with that long-neglected book.
A private chef can create a personalized menu for special occasions by separate arrangement, with lunch or dinner at the dining table in the Vineyard Kitchen, at the Long Table under huge trees overlooking the vineyard (masterfully designed from a collapsed pier from the coast), or in a rustic setting beside the wood-fired Pizza Oven. True to farmhouse traditions, freshly baked muffins create delicious aromas when you arrive, your breakfast eggs are from local hens, the bread is from nearby Flinders, sausages and bacon are neatly wrapped in greaseproof paper, and jams and preserves are local.
No matter which accommodation suits your party, the property offers everything you could wish for and all in the most relaxed surroundings. The owner, Sioned, has poured pure passion into Tussie Mussie, every room and every corner has been thoughtfully planned and beautifully arranged.
The surrounding Mornington Peninsula offers so much variety in a 'postage sized' corner of Australia. Weekend produce markets and local providores such as the super butcher at nearby Balnarring (perfect for 'out-fitting' the Tussie Mussie BBQs) abound.
If you are active then get out there paddle boarding, swimming with dolphins or horse riding. There are the hot springs to experience, dozens of great vineyards and restaurants to try and lovely gardens and a maze to explore.
Tussie Mussie offers accommodation in three separate buildings that accommodate eight, four or just two people. Tussie Mussie is ideal for family groups or a gathering of friends, then again it is perfect for just two people wanting a weekend hideaway! Each of the accommodations are unique in location, size and style.
A separate and romantic cottage consisting of two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed (sharing one large bathroom) the Cottage was the owner’s cottage when the property was a working rose & herb farm. Cook breakfast in the cottage kitchen or on the gas BBQ and enjoy the pleasure of dining on your terrace with views over the garden. The cottage is true Mornington Peninsula Country Style and while we describe it as ‘reflecting on by-gone-days’ the cottage has been modernised with such conveniences as a large LCD TV with DVD player, Bose iPod dock, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso Coffee machine, reverse cycle air-conditioning and a BBQ. It is worth noting that all accommodation at Tussie Mussie is equipped with these fine accessories.
The Vineyard Lodges offers accommodation in four king bedrooms each with its own private en suite bathroom and lounge area. Additionally each suite has its own entrance and terrace making the Lodge both convivial for a large group of friends and family, yet enabling each guest to enjoy the privacy of their own suite. The lounge, furnished in a Provençal style, has high ceilings and a stunning view of the terrace and valley beyond. In addition there is a separate media room with all the latest entertainment systems. As you would imagine the kitchen is equipped with baking & cooking utensils that will delight the most committed cook. Outdoor the terrace is furnished for lounging and dining, there is a BBQ and large shade umbrellas. The terrace overlooks the property the gardens and the rural lands beyond.
|The Old Laundry||
The Old Laundry is a spacious and private retreat for two, consisting of a bedroom, bathroom with shower, its own private entrance and parking. In a woodland setting this building was originally the farm laundry, now the only suggestion of a laundry are the vintage French laundry baskets and an antique washboard. Again you will enjoy the mod-cons and comforts of the larger accommodations on the property, including enough of a kitchen to prepare a light meal. No doubt you will agree that, breakfast is best prepared on your own BBQ and enjoyed on your private, covered seating area.
There are no specific facilities for children at Tussie Mussie, and would say that it is not the most ideal place for toddlers as there is an unfenced dam. Babysitting can be arranged if required.
The Long Table overlooks the vineyard and provides an amazing place to enjoy the company of your friends and family. Three huge cast iron candelabras hang above the table on a rustic iron support and at night the soft glow of candle-like lights provide ambiance to a dinner or early evening aperitif prepared by you or a local chef. For a Mediterranean style lunch The Long Table is perfect, and the Peninsula is a great place for a food and wine foraging excursion!
The Pizza Oven provides yet another memorable place to sit with friends. Combining both a large brick and a clay oven with a BBQ, you can cook for yourselves or allow us to arrange a local chef to cater for your gathering.
The Vineyard Kitchen is separate to all the buildings on the property and can be used (for a small fee) to entertain groups of guests. If you wish we can arrange a private chef to come to cook for you, providing a wonderful chance to learn more about Mornington Peninsula’s fine produce. There is seating for up to 14 guests at the large rectangular kitchen table and on the deck there is space for up to 18 guests.
Tussie Mussie has wonderful gardens including a ‘veggie patch’ and a herb garden. The owner encourages you to help yourself and even a novice cook will be keen to whip up something special.
Location & Directions
Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia
Tussie Mussie is located in amongst the vines close to the small towns, the variety of beaches and the bushlands of the Mornington Peninsula. If you are staying over the weekend we will be sure to advise you of weekend farmer's markets as they are the ideal spot for gathering some delicious local produce to enjoy at Tussie Mussie.
When to go
Victoria enjoys a temperate climate with warm summers, balmy and mild spring and autumn and cool winters. The main summer season is from December-February and the quietest time of the year is the Aussie winter June-August. There is no doubt that the Mornington Peninsula is at its glorious best in the spring and summer, however, we think a good bottle of red wine, some great food and a roaring fire make Tussie Mussie a great place for a winter retreat too.
