Melbourne enjoys a temperate climate with warm summers, balmy and mild spring and autumn and cool winters. The main summer season is from December-February and the quietest time of the year is the Aussie winter June-August. However, as Melbourne plays host to many international sporting events as well as fashion weeks and international conferences, it is always a good idea to book in advance and check to find out what is happening in the city when you are looking to book.

Crown Towers rise above the vibrant Southbank of Melbournes Yarra River. Its location is short of perfect for maximising a short stay in this buzzing city. The hotel is located just a few minutes stroll to Melbourne's Southbank entertainment precinct, CBD, shops, theaters, museums, restaurants and bars.
I stayed at The Crown towards the end of my trip, having experienced some phenomenal natural beauty. To be honest the thought of staying in a hotel that also owns the neighboring casino complex didn't necessarily leave me with high expectations. However I have to swallow my words because I did fall for the Crowns opulent luxury. I can only describe it as a guilty pleasure - a metropolitan ying to the great outdoors yang.
The Crown Towers is expensive, with 482 rooms and filled with acres of marble, chandeliers and contemporary artwork. Each room is adorned with modern technology, a large plasma-screen TV iPod docking station, and a separate dressing room. The sink in my glamorous marble bathrooms was framed by miniature chandeliers while a walk wardrobe reduced the clutter after a long journey. Each room provides captivating views of the city or Port Phillip Bay. From my generously sized studio rooms floor to ceiling windows I was afforded views over the Yarra River to the ochre colored Central Station which was glowing in the twilight sun.
Crown Spa offers a range of facials, massages, beauty treatments and therapies but it was the spectacular 25-meter heated indoor pool which offered a true wow factor. The hotel gym was also the best that I have experienced of any hotel in Australia.
Melbournites are renowned for their love of food and The Crown Towers provides easy access to some of the best restaurants in the city. The Conservatory restaurant at the Crown serves wonderful international cuisine but Id advise venturing out into the neighboring Crown entertainment complex where youll find restaurants like Nobu and Rockpool whose bill can be easily charged back to your room. The Crown Entertainment Complex also boasts a plethora of luxury shops include Versace, Prada, Burberry and Louis Vuitton.

When I first heard about Crown Towers, I thought that it definitely wasn’t my type of place. With its massive casino and bling exterior it sounded a bit like Las Vegas in Melbourne and I normally prefer things a bit more boutique and subtle… but after my stay here I completely changed my mind! Even though it has nearly 500 rooms, ranging from Deluxe to huge Penthouse villas on the upper floors, I really liked the way they managed your whole experience here and the rooms really are pretty special! In a fantastic location on Melbourne’s cool South Bank, the views from the rooms of the cityscape are spectacular. Even the smaller rooms are decadently fitted with huge tvs and luxurious linen. The spa and swimming pool are one of the best I have ever seen and there is a huge advantage of having so many different restaurasnts within easy reach. The whole place is like a playground for grown ups, with big jets of fire being set off every few minutes outside and bright lights and chandeliers everywhere. Don’t let the gaudy initial impression put you off - this really is the most extravagant of hotels but a really fun place to stay.
