Insider's View

If you are feeling fit, book the Freycinet Paddle, a fantastic sea kayaking trip around Coles Bay. I saw dolphins, sea eagles and the water was so clear it felt like I was floating on glass.

Crystal-clear waters, white sands and plentiful sunshine sometimes make Tasmania’s East Coast Freycinet Peninsula seem more like it’s in the tropics than at a temperate 41° South. This climate makes it perfect for producing some of Tasmania’s best wines. Freycinet National Park is the ideal spot for gentle walks, camping and kayaking and wildlife spotting.

Freycinet Lodge was once the place to stay here on the peninsula. However, the new Saffire Lodge has taken this over, but is also in a completely different price league. So Freycinet Lodge will still be the best option for a lot of travellers. Quite a resorty feel, the main lodge houses the restaurant(very good seafood) looking out over Coles Bay. In general not the sort of place you lounge around your room, although they are very comfortable, as you will be out and about either paddling Kayaks on Coles Bay, taking the walk up to the viewpoint for Wineglass Bay, or out on a cruise for the day.
