From the moment you walk through the entrance door you will be blown away. It's glass dome lounge area is incredibly fresh and light and in the evening, their open bar provides for a very welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Dining is a highlight, with excellent wine pairing and if that's not enough, you can help yourself to wines in their wine cellar.

Kangaroo Island, Australia's third largest island is just a 25 minute flight from Adelaide. This is a 1,700 square mile pristine wilderness, teaming with native wildlife. With over a third of the island being untouched national Park this is Australia's Galapagos.
An hours drive from tiny Kingscote Airport on the remote south west coast, set between two national parks lies stunning Southern Ocean Lodge. Southern Ocean Lodge is defined by its magnificent views. As soon as you enter the Lodge's vast atrium, floor to ceiling windows offer expansive views of the sea below and the waves of the Southern Ocean crashing into Hanson Bay. An outside terrace and daybeds provide glorious panoramic views of kangaroos playing in the bush and the water spouts of migrating whales out at sea.
Each of the eco-wilderness lodge 21 stunning contemporary suites has spectacular views but it is the Osprey Pavilion in the most private section of the lodge that is the real jaw dropper. The Pavilion comes complete with hand-sculpted, egg-shaped Japanese bathtub and private terrace.
The dining room focuses on local seasonal cuisine as well complemented with herbs sourced from the bush (which you can learn about on guided walks). The spa utilizes natural Australian ingredients and is positioned on an outcrop providing each treatment room with spectacular Ocean views and invigorating fresh air straight from Antarctic.
Southern Ocean Lodge is so sublime that you could spend your entire time simply rejuvenating at the property, however, most guests come here to discover the bountiful wildlife right on the doorstep. The Lodge offers some truly fantastic experiences that shouldn't be missed. Twilight tours to see kangaroos, accompanied by canaps and champagne, hikes to sea Australian fur seals, Echidnas, Australian Sea Lions and Koalas are all on offer.

Upon opening, Southern Ocean Lodge was heralded to be the most luxurious accommodation and one of the best wildlife experiences in Australia. This was quite an accolade, but on visiting I totally agree! The lodge is not only set in one of the most stunning locations - on the rugged southern coast of Kangaroo Island overlooking the Southern Ocean - but the accommodation itself is out of this world. The suites make the most of the views with huge glass windows and are casual chic in design. As this really is a high end eco resort, it makes as little impact as possible on its pristine surrounding environment whilst still being a wonderful place to stay. The friendly laid back atmosphere really works, from the cozy lounge area to the help yourself bar (all included in the cost). The staff are really great and go to make the whole experience a very special one, with the highlight of course being on local natural produce and the wildlife all around you.
