Average time to visit
The best time to visit the UAE is between October and November and then February and March, when temperatures hang around the mid-20s and the humidity is under control. While December and January are generally considered the best months to go, the weather over the last couple of ‘winters’ has been unpredictable with occasional cloud and rain.
The month of Ramadan means hotel rates are heavily discounted, but while outside the resort, Ramadan is strictly adhered to, within the resorts you will notice very little difference.
High summer (July and August) means heavy discounted hotels it’s a great option for a cheap getaway but it will be very very hot and very very humid!

There is a quiet and tranquil feel to Dar Al Masyaf with the waterways offering a unique and fun way to get around the Madinat resort complex. The rooms are very spacious with only 8 or 9 other rooms in a unit, each unit with its own outside seating area and swimming pool where you can also enjoy drinks from 6 - 7pm. Staying within the Madinat hotel complex you have access to over 60 restaurants, literally catering to every taste!

Although located within the large resort of Madinat Jumeirah, Dar Al Masyaf has a quiet and peaceful feel. The rooms are located within Arabic style summer houses with waterways connecting you to the large selection of facilities of the Madinat complex.

I really liked the feel of Dar Al Masyaf, away from the hustle and bustle of its neighboring sister hotels. The waterways meander their way through the summer houses and offer a relaxing way to get around. Each of the summer houses is located on a small "island" with 8 or 9 other units, each sharing a pool. There is a feeling of peace, tranquillity and exclusivity, yet you are only a stone's throw from the souk, Wild Wadi Waterpark, and the busy Jumeirah Beach.

Dar Al Masyaf boasts the best of both worlds - a boutique and intimate feel with all of the perks of being in a larger resort. The summerhouses are small buildings which feel a bit like Moroccan Riads, (a pool for every three summer houses) but then you've got 44 restaurants to choose from! It's also good fun getting around the property by 'abra' or boat, on the resort's canals.

Jumeirah Madinat is a large complex split into three separate hotels and linked by waterways. There are over 60 restaurants to try should you have the time, as well as a large beach, souk area (Arabian market) and various pools to choose from.
1. Mina A'Salam is the hotel option for guests with a slightly more modest budget. It has an old Arabic style, grand lobby with a huge pond of rose petals and the rooms feature dark woods and give a subdued luxury feel. I would recommend the Arabian Sea View Deluxe rooms or suites as they allow two children under 12 to share your room, which is great for smaller families or couples looking to access the Jumeirah complex at a lower budget.
2. Dar al Masyaf is the most exclusive section of the complex and the most popular with Scott Dunn guests. It is made up of a collection of summerhouses spread all around the complex and joined by waterways. Each house has around 9 rooms and a suite. The houses are split into two categories: Arabian and Gulf. The Gulf houses offer either sea view or garden view rooms, Arabian offering garden view rooms only, and there is one suite in each house. All rooms interconnect so they are great for families. The Dar Al Masyaf feels like a boutique hotel despite being part of such a large resort. This hotel also has the best access to the beach, children's club and majority of restaurants.
3. Al Qasr is the more luxurious of the two main hotels and more suitable for couples than Mina A'Salam. I would say Al Qasr is more glitzy and better located due to its proximity to the beach; the kid's club and the souk area are also located here with many shops and restaurants, perfect for families. Rooms have either Arabian (garden) views or Gulf (sea) views. Connecting rooms can be requested but are unfortunately not guaranteed.
I highly recommend their new Mexican restaurant Tortuga, which is great to pop into for a casual yet yummy meal in the Mina A'Salam, the Pulled Beef Burrito is excellent as is the Borrego Mexican Tacos which is oven roasted lamb in avocado leaves with green tomatillo sauce.
