The Fort Printers
Galle, Sri Lanka
At a Glance
Large rooms with lots of character in the main building. We recommend the headmasters in particular.
Great food and really reasonable prices. The restaurant is a popular destination for non-hotel guests as the food is so good.
The small pool in the central courtyard is not that private but perfect for cooling down in.
Some of the rooms in the main building do get noise from the courtyard but this is minimal as it is a small and intimate hotel.
The new villa located across the road from the historic printers has a more contemporary finish and more of a sense of light and space. It can be hired exclusively and is very private.

From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4000mm a year. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C. The sea stays at around 27°C all year. Climatically speaking, the driest (and best) seasons in Sri Lanka are from December to March for the west and south coasts.

All these rooms have high, beamed ceilings and some have beautiful vistas across the roof tops of Galle.

This is a wonderfully charming hotel. It is very old, however, and the floor boards do creak! I thought the Pedlars wing, across the street was great, as you can take the whole thing (3 rooms). Ideal for a family who would like to have a little freedom.

The Fort Printers is charming and ideally located for a visit to Galle Fort. My favorite rooms were the ones named after school subjects as I think that they have the most character.
