The Mudhouse is a perfect place to escape for those who are slightly more adventurous and it's biggest selling point is its simplicity. The manager and founder Kumar and his staff will welcome you with an enormous smile and do all they can to make you feel welcome.

There are no signposts on the gravel road that winds to the settlement which adds to the feeling of remoteness and privacy of the huts dotted amongst the trees. The rooms are all different in size and design but all are built using traditional techniques and locally sourced materials. There is very limited electricity and therefore no hot water and the rooms are lit with oil lamps at night. Beds are comfortable and well protected with mosquito nets and all guests are provided with a torch for navigating when night falls. Showers are outdoors.

The surrounding landscape is a naturalist's dream with fantastic bird life on the lake and beautifully patterned butterflies everywhere.

Your meals are eaten in a separate hut which is incredibly tranquil. At night a camp fire is lit and hours can be spent under the stars. All the fruit and vegetables you will eat are grown on site and the food is simple and delicious local fare. The kitchen is by no means closed and many guests like to observe and learn traditional cooking techniques during their stay.

The Mudhouse is styled on a typical village mud house which consists of a double bedroom, a small library and sitting area. One bathroom which has a w/c, basin and open air shower. The Mud House can accommodate up to four guests. The hotel is currently building a raised platform, similar to a treehouse, so that this can accommodate larger families, commanding spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.

This is also a spacious Camping Hut that accommodates up to 12 guests. Double beds on raised clay platforms fitted with mosquito netting are set dormitory style. There are two indoor bathrooms with outdoor showers. The Camping Hut is ideal for two families or a group of friends traveling together.

For those traveling as a family, the Family Hut has a sleeping area furnished with two double beds; living area, indoor bathroom and outdoor shower. The Family Hut is situated closest to the restaurant.

Finally, the Honeymoon Hut is a small, romantic hut fitted with a double bed and has an indoor bathroom and outdoor shower.

Children are very welcome and families tend to love the Mudhouse. There are no specific facilities for children and we wouldn't recommend the retreat for very young children.

The Mudhouse has plenty of activities, and also a yoga sala for those who would like to do yoga by themselves as there isn't an instructor. Meals are served either in the restaurant or in-room, or a table can be set up in the location of your choice - ideal for couples seeking a romantic option.

Every morning at breakfast you will be asked about your activity plans for the day, all of which are included. You can choose from swimming, fishing, kayaking or boating on the lake, birdwatching (although this is best arranged the night before, as it involves an early start), walking to the local Paramankanda Rock Temple or exploring a local village by bicycle. There are also more activities available slightly further afield, but these are chargeable.

The Mudhouse doesn't have wifi, although guests can use the hotel's computer which is connected to the internet if they really need to.
