Traditional Homes - Swotha is very unique, a restored Newari mansion that retains its amazing decorative features, yet is immensely comfortable. Blending understated elegance, with clever use of subtle natural tones and locally sourced materials, it offers all the modern comforts especially in the bathrooms. The rooms have cute balconies and have exposed balconies (do note some can be quite low, as with most old Nepalese houses). You are right on the doorstep of an amazingly untouched part of Kathmandu from bustling squares, markets and fantastic walking opportunities. This does mean that you often wake up to temple bells, and a few barking dogs, but you don't come to Nepal to be cocooned away from what makes it such a special city.
The Manger, Shyam, is very attentive and looks after his guests with consummative ease and dedication. There is a delightful rooftop terrace from where you can see the top of the building of Patan Durbar Square.
The cafe downstairs offers superb food, and both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu ranges from lovely breakfasts in the morning with made to order eggs and fresh coffee to a selection of Newari and Continental dishes in the evening.
If you like your hotels to be small and offering more of a chance to engage with the destination, then Traditional Homes is the answer - it is a lovely B&B in a really interesting part of town offering a really comfortable experience at a good price.
There are six rooms at Traditional Homes, offering a range of Twin or Double Rooms and all with en-suite bathrooms and some with balconies.
Traditional Homes Swotha has a cafe downstairs offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a rooftop terrace and wifi is available throughout.

When to go
Nepal has a Monsoonal climate with four main seasons. Fall and spring are the two most favourable seasons for visiting Nepal. Fall (September to early December) brings in clear weather with sunny days and warm nights. Spring (March to May) with occasional rain falls. From June to September, is the monsoon season. Uncomfortable time to visit as the climate of Nepal at this time of year brings about hot weather and rain falls almost every day.
