Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.

February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian vacation week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.

Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.

Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.

The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.

This resort certainly feels more alive in terms of the number of guests than other Maldivian islands, perhaps as it is the only resort in the Laamu Atoll. It maintains a laid-back barefoot ethos, but the resort layout, a central large dining area with off shoot food outlets and buffet style dining, it encourages a more sociable atmosphere. In this main overwater area you will also find the gift shop, the marine center, the ice cream parlour and the chocolate shop.

I recommend requesting one of the over water villas on the sunset side and at the end of the jetty for the most incredible uninterrupted views out over the ocean - the perfect spot for enjoying the sunset.

A highlight for me at Six Senses Laamu was the barefoot spa. I enjoyed a tailored Laamu massage using hot stones whilst my daughter had a relaxing coconut oil massage. We devoured a delicious lunch from the fresh 'garden to poolside' menu served at Sip Sip and were later treated to the incredibly innovative fresh and healthy menu served at LEAF. I can understand why this venue is so popular, with its amazing menu and special location, this is the ultimate dinner spot. When you book your stay let me know and I will be happy to make you a reservation here and ensure one of the best tables for you!

We loved our vacation at Six Senses Laamu. We were taken care of throughout the journey here, and the welcome on the speedboat as they took our shoes helped us to start relaxing immediately.

With the general business of life and having more or less left the hectic schedule behind it has taken a few more days to really relax but everything here is geared up for that, and after a couple of days of snorkeling and swimming, topped off with a wonderful massage, we certainly unwound. The marine biologists and the sun and star gazers provide interesting interludes and the rest of the many staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly too.

The over-water villa was gorgeous and cycling around the island was just brilliant.

Thank you so much for recommending it to us and for sorting it all out so efficiently.

Six Senses Laamu is barefoot luxury at its finest. It is best suited for those who prefer a more rustic style of accommodation, focussing on sustainability and maintaining an eco-friendly environment. There is so much to do on this island and would be suitable for couples and families alike. Enjoy cycling around on the bikes that are provided and explore all that the island has to offer.

Six Senses Laamu is a stunning resort, eco friendly and offering wonderful dining and service it is a perfect location. With a complimentary ice cream bar, with 42 flavors it is a must!

Mr David Price-Stephens (Guest)

[Laamu] managed to very effectively blend the characteristics of being a top end resort (and what you expect from this) with the ability to maintain a chilled and relaxed atmosphere - staff were friendly (although English not always as good as it perhaps needed to be) and they did seek to get to know you and personalize the experience... overall, exceeded our expectations.

Food and Service:

Wasn't quite sure what to expect - we have never been on a 'resort' vacation before and we have never booked accommodation on a half board basis. Food was consistently excellent - ashamed to say I had the same main course from the a la carte menu four evenings out of seven... variety was great, wine list was extensive and ice cream bar/chocolate station was a nice touch...

Activities:

Range of activities was excellent and we tried loads of stuff - I don't mind paying for things, but I think these types of resort need to strike a better balance between the complimentary activities and those that you are charged for...

e.g. happy to pay for a surfing lesson, but why can't they just give you a board for the day for free (if you don't need any assistance from a boat or an instructor)...

Staff and transfers:

Six Senses staff from Male to resort were excellent - they actually made things easy and relaxed in what is a horribly busy airport when a few flights land around the same time...

Returning:

Already trying to work out dates for a longer return visit next year... that's always the ultimate test - going back to the same hotel for a second time... if they exceed our expectations next year, they're definitely doing something right...

Having worked with Soneva Fushi and Gili for so long I was concerned about making critical comparisons to this little sister resort but in the end I actually found a new favorite in the rustic luxury variety of resorts in The Maldives.

The island feels larger and younger than it's predecessors, with a huge variety of facilities. While the villas are admittedly smaller than those you may find at Gili or Fushi, they are by no means small and were brand new and beautifully constructed, feeling natural yet luxurious.

The communal areas largely gathered over water were stunning and the bar had a very Ibiza'esqe vibe. Leaf, the stilted restaurant on the island was my favorite spot for lunch while the most amazing private BBQ dinner on the beach was prepared for me in the evening - a very special touch I would recommend to anyone (who had not eaten for a week).

The dive center and water sports facilities were really impressive with a great crew and the spa was quite incredible - I had a treatment in a birds nest like pod by the beach - complete bliss.

I can't see how anyone could fail to love Laamu but in particular I would recommend it to active young couples and honeymooners.

This is an island better suited to guests who are looking for more of a buzzy atmosphere, with a DJ playing at the main bar six nights a week. There's plenty on offer, one excursion being the dolphin cruise during which guests can enjoy champagne and canaps before returning for dinner at one of the restaurants, such as LEAF - located above the vegetable garden. The service here is fantastic and very personalized.
