Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.
February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian vacation week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.
Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.
Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.
The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.

Reviews

The Park Hyatt takes a little longer to get to than some other islands (domestic flight then speedboat transfer) but it really is worth it once you get there! It has been certified as having the best hotel house reef in the Maldives, no trees were chopped down during the construction of the hotel, and it is a small island with a really exclusive feel. Quite modern in style with clean lines and a polished feel, so perhaps not for those looking for a rustic island! Their new all-inclusive package is also such good value and really lets you indulge!

This is a fantastic resort for those fans of the underwater world, for both snorkeling and diving with it being in the relatively untouched Huvadhoo atoll. As the name suggests, this hotel exudes perfection when it comes to service. The villas are stylish and contemporary guaranteeing guests a comfortable and relaxing time away.
Susie Reynolds (Staff)
I’m a keen diver so this for me was heaven. The house reef was out of this world with fantastic table corals, turtles and dolphins at the reefs edge. The island itself is very pretty with a stunning white beach circling the island. The villas are cool and contemporary and though not huge, offer more than enough space. Some of the island villas are more private than others, so request one which is either more private or has a better sea view depending on your preference. The water villas all have a sunset view and while the deck is narrow and they’ve opted against having plunge pools, I’d rather one of these water villas than many others out there for the view, reef and day bed alone!
