If you're looking for extra luxury, I’d recommend upgrading to a Pool Villa. You get your own private plunge pool, as well as incredible views out to the neighboring rice paddy.

Description

Coconut Lagoon is accessible only by boat and nestles along the shore of Lake Vembanad, a 175-square kilometer expanse of water stretching between the backwaters of Kerala and the sea. The resort’s heritage rooms and pool villas are scattered throughout the tropical gardens of the resort, many with outdoor garden bathrooms and views of the canals.

Fort Cochin is the specialty seafood restaurant serving a variety of shellfish, sea and river fish in local and international styles, as well as meat and vegetarian dishes. With its large swimming pool, Ayurvedic center and peaceful atmosphere it is the perfect place to relax for a few days.

Activities in the local area include boat rides, exploring life on the backwaters, visits to the Kavanar bird sanctuary and farms, experiencing organic farming and fish cultivation or learn to cook local specialties. You can also attend a performance of Kathakali, Kerala's classical dance, or try your hand at Kalari, Kerala's very own form of martial art.

Accommodation

The Heritage Bungalows are compact independent cottages set in lush lawns along the canals. The Heritage Mansions are larger with an upper storey defined by distinctive wooden ribs that resemble the sides of a boat with fine views of the lake. On their own quiet section of lake front, are the Pool Villas. Peace and privacy combine here, with private pools, distinctive interiors and your own little hammock.

Childcare

Children are welcome to come and stay at Coconut Lagoon. There is a children's pool at the hotel and babysitting can be arranged upon request.

Facilities

Facilities at Coconut Lagoon include an outdoor swimming pool and an Ayurveda center. CGH Earth who run the hotel take great care in creating eco-sensitive hotels with an aim on preserving the local environment.

When to go

Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite the warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore this Indian land of mystery.
