The climate of Madhya Pradesh can be labelled tropical and monsoonal. Seasonal variations occur mainly in the form of three distinct seasons - summer, winter and monsoon.
Summer runs from April until June with temperatures reaching over 40°C during the day, while early mornings and evenings are pleasant, around 18-24°C. Rainfall is heavy in the monsoon season which lasts from mid-June until September. Winters are pleasant and the best time to travel is from October to March when game viewing in the national parks is at its best.
Please note the national parks in this region are closed during the monsoon season, from July until October.

The Fern Gir Forest Resort is a luxury resort located close to the entrance of Gir National Park in Gujarat in India, famous for its Asiatic lions. The Fern has just 40 comfortable rooms and is the ideal base from which to explore the park.
Gir National Park is the only place to see the Asiatic lion in India, and was established in 1965 to ensure the survival of the species. The park is a mixture of deciduous scrub and dry savannah forests and contains around 525 lions alongside leopard, striped hyena, wild boar, golden jackal, mongoose and a range of deer. There are over 300 species of birds and 37 species of reptile. Therefore the wildlife in Gir is exceptionally diverse and hugely rewarding. Game drives in the park happen in the very early morning the late afternoon. The park is open from mid-October until mid-June.
The Fern Gir Forest Resort is the best place to stay if you want to view the wildlife, yet do not expect a classic wildlife lodge, it is very much a comfortable resort style hotel. There are just 40 rooms, leading in with the Fern Tents which are fully air-conditioned and offer a queen bed, LCD TV, indoor bathroom and a small sit-out. Next up, the Winter Green Cottage are larger and they have a small balcony (either upstairs or ground level). The Fern Villas are all freestanding and have their own private garden to the rear and a small veranda to the front. The Hazel Suite is the most private of the rooms, with superb views over the Hiran River from your own veranda.
There are two restaurants, the Banyan Tree is the main restaurant and offers both a-la-carte and buffet cuisine. Do note it is a vegetarian only restaurant. The River View is their fine dining restaurant and is ideal for taking in the sunsets. They serve Italian fare. Do note that Gujarat is a dry state, and as such the hotel does not serve alcohol.
The resort has a large pool, a spa and small gymnasium which are all much appreciated when you are back at the resort between game drives.
There are 40 rooms including tents, cottages, villas and suites. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs and mini-bars. They also all have some form of sit-out or veranda with the higher room categories being more private. In room dining is provided.
The Fern has a range of facilities including a main swimming pool, two restaurants, spa, Jacuzzi, gym and lovely landscaped gardens.
Game drives into the park begin at 0600 in the morning and last until 0900 - this means an early start but the best time to see the wildlife is at dawn and dusk. The afternoon drives start at 1500 and last until 1800.
