A stay at Topas Ecolodge isn't just a standard hotel stay, it's an experience. You are surrounded by the most amazing views of the mountains, the paddy fields and local villages; you do feel a bit like you're on top of the world! Two or three nights here would be the perfect amount of time to enjoy some of the activities the area has to offer and just to relax amongst these serene surroundings. It is certainly an escape from the nearby busy town of Sapa.

All the bungalows have slightly different aspects as they are all angled differently. Inside though they are all the same, although the Executive bungalows also come with air conditioning. They have lovely little balconies from which you can enjoy the views, mosquito net covered beds and spacious bathrooms. The design is very simple in keeping with the eco ethos of the lodge, but very comfortable. Waking up to those mountain views in the morning is magical.

Activities in the area are mostly focused on trekking and visiting local villages to learn about culture and different ethnic tribes. Treks can vary from easy to challenging, or if you don't want to walk you can perhaps visit places by motorcycle or bicycle! Do be aware though of touts as they can sometimes be very pushy to get you to buy their products.

There is a restaurant at the lodge where you are most likely to dine as the restaurants of Sapa are quite a drive away. The food is very good and you tend to order earlier in the day so they know what you want in advance. Service is very good too, mostly local staff who were very eager and keen to be helpful which was a definite plus.

Although there is no pool here, there are some sunbeds positioned with the most amazing views and lots of comfortable seating areas so you can relax with a good book or just enjoy the scenery!

There are 25 bungalows here in total - 16 Executive and 9 Deluxe. Both bungalows are the same size and have the same style, but the Executive Bungalows have air conditioning and a mini bar in addition. They all have slightly different aspects as they are angled differently and face outwards towards the mountains in a circle. There is no view really that is better than another, they are all pretty fantastic!

Children are welcome to stay here but there are no specific facilities available for them. Given the nature of the activities in the area, we wouldn't recommend for children under the age of 10 years.

There is one restaurant here that serves mostly Vietnamese food but there is the odd western dish available! Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are served here. There is a cosy bar downstairs complete with an open fire for the colder nights or outside seating for the warmer evenings.

During your time here the activities will mostly revolve around exploring the amazing mountainous scenery and visiting the hill tribe village. Trekking is a really great way to get a sense of the area and isn't so busy. Treks can range from easy to difficult so there is something for everyone. Or you can go on a motorcycle, by 4x4 or perhaps by bicycle.
