Make sure you are adventurous and order Meang Kum and Meang Goon as ask them to explain how you eat it - an explosion of ginger, lemon, shallot, shrimp, peanut, shredded coconut, chili, s, tamarind sauce - yum!

If you can draw yourself away from the free flowing Champagne, join the fishermen out on the river.

To start planning your vacation to Wanakarn Resort and Spa

Tucked away in what can only be described as a beautiful botanical garden is the Wanakarn. The resort is quite small with just 16 villas dotted around the resort. There is a big pool, a riverside beach and a seaside beach. If you are looking for seclusion without the loss of luxury, you can certainly find it here. There are no other restaurants, bars or even houses nearby - just the resort and the natural surroundings for you to enjoy.

The modern villas which are dotted around the resort are complete with their own private pool and are tastefully decorated with polished wood and cream tones. The main infinity pool is big and looks out to the river and sea beyond. Sunbeds on both beaches provide the perfect place for an afternoon's kip or to catch up on some reading whilst the spa provides the ultimate escape into a world of relaxation. However, if you are after some activity, you need not look far as there are bicycles and kayaks at your disposal to explore the surrounding area, tennis courts and a fitness suite to get your body moving. Regarding cuisine, Twin Waters is the main restaurant and you can enjoy your delicious fusion dishes indoors or alfresco. Each dish is made from scratch, so be prepared to wait that little bit extra!

Being so small and part of the Relais & Chateaux group means that the service is exceptional, if you do not fancy any of the items on the menu, the chef will create you something else. Staff are on hand to look after your every need whether that is a different pillow for your bed or offering advice on the best places to swim. It is this personal service and feeling of seclusion which makes this resort unique.

There is just one type of accommodation at Wanakarn - the Pool Villa. It consists of one master bedroom with a large king size bed, an en-suite bathroom with free standing Jacuzzi bathtub, rainforest shower, private WC, wardrobe, living room with desk, coffee table and a large sofa. There is an outdoor terrace with a private swimming pool and waterfall shower. It is of course equipped with the latest technology and high quality bed linen.

As this is such a secluded retreat with an emphasis on tranquillity it is not the most suitable choice for children.

Food at the resort is excellent and is served at Twin Waters Restaurant. The menu is ever changing and the chef will happily cater to your preferences. You can also enjoy a wide selection of premium teas, drinks and exotic cocktails at one of the three bars on site. A sunset drink on the Sunset Terrace is a must during your stay!

The spa, although quite small, offers a range of traditional and exotic therapies and treatments for a bit of pampering. There are also tennis courts, a large infinity pool, a fitness center and the two beaches for your enjoyment.

A stay at Wanakarn is mostly based on relaxation. However, the complimentary bicycles give you the opportunity to explore the beautiful area - the helpful staff can point out some must see spots for you to find. You can also head out in a kayak to explore the island from the water and get some wonderful inland views.
