To start planning your vacation to Tanjong Jara
Tanjong Jara sits on a long crescent of golden beach fringed by palm trees, overlooking the turquoise waters of the South China Sea. The resort's fairly quiet and remote location creates an appealing local-feel, whilst still offering the high-standard of facilities and accommodation that you would expect from a luxury resort.
There are 100 en-suite rooms, decorated with furnishings crafted from local timber. The design is modern, but also features elegant local touches. The higher room categories have large outdoor verandas, many of which face the sea.
Dining at Tanjong Jara is an experience in itself. There are no menus at the Di Atas Sungei restaurant; instead the resort's 'Menu Masters' will guide you through a personalized choice of dishes, using the best fresh local produce. Other dining options include Nelayan, where you can have freshly cooked seafood by the beach, and Teratai Terrace, where you can sample traditional tandoori dishes for lunch and enjoy cocktails and private dining in the evenings.
The resort has an inviting infinity pool with views towards the sea, and there is also a separate adults-only pool. The award-winning spa is a peaceful sanctuary housed in an area of tranquil pools and gardens, and the unique restorative Malay therapies have been handed down from generation to generation.
Culture and appreciation of the natural surroundings are an integral part of the Tanjong Jara experience. Cooking classes with the chef include visits to the local market, and it is possible to go a walk with the resort's naturalist to learn about the area's flora and fauna. The snorkeling and diving in this area are excellent and the nearby Tengoll Island is part of the fabulous Terengganu Marine Park. The hotel has its own PADI Dive Center and caters to every level of experience.
There are 100 rooms in total at Tanjong Jara. The Bumbung and Serambi Rooms are in a two-storey building, with the first floor Bumbung rooms having wonderful views of the sea or gardens, and below them the Serambi Rooms having the addition of a partially covered veranda. The Anjung Rooms are single storey and are on the beachfront with private outdoor courtyards with sunken baths. There are two exclusive, semi-detached rooms right on the seafront. These Anjung Seafront rooms are a perfect modern beach hideaway, set right on the beach facing the beautiful South China Sea.
Children are very welcome to come and stay at Tanjong Jara and family and children's activities (such as batik painting) can be easily arranged. Babysitting is also readily available on request and interconnecting rooms are available.
Di Atas Sungei restaurant sits above the river and has no menu; instead the chef will create different dishes every day based on the freshest local produce. The Teratai Terrace sits next to the pool, serving tandoori dishes for lunch and cocktails and private dining in the evening. At the Nelayan you can enjoy seafood by candlelight in a beachfront setting. The hotel's spa is a sanctuary specializing in restorative Malay treatments. There is a PADI dive center, library, two swimming pools and two tennis courts.
Tanjong Jara offers a range of experiences, including immersive options such as visits to local markets and walks with the resort's naturalist. Longer day trips include cycling tours to a local village and a visit to the highest waterfall in Southeast Asia. There are various snorkeling and diving excursions, with excellent reefs close to nearby islands.

Tanjong Jara Resort is situated on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, between Kuala Terengganu in the North and Kuantan in the South. The Resort is built on a 17-hectare site facing the South China Sea. The town of Dungun lies west of Tanjong Jara and is 8km away.
When to go
Best weather between March and September, but as with anywhere in the tropics, afternoon showers shouldn't be a shock. Temperatures rarely drop much below 30 degrees.
