Tanjong Jara is situated on a 17-hectare site, with an extensive stretch of private beach on the north east coast of Peninsula Malaysia. The resort’s design is based on traditional Malay architecture, where each room incorporates authentic local timbers and rich fabrics, and enjoys superb views of the South China Sea.
Dining at Tanjong Jara is an experience in itself, with no menu at the Di Atas Sungei restaurant your meal is customized to your taste and desires, the chef will guide you through the options and cook your personalized meal just for you. Other restaurants include Nelayan where you can have freshly cooked seafood on the beach surrounded by bamboo torches and the sounds of the lapping waves. Alternatively opt for a private romantic dinner in a location of your choice.
Culture is an integral part of the Tanjong Jara experience. The resort's cooking school introduces guests to the Malay, Chinese and Indian influences here in the Malaysia archipelago. The nearby villages are welcoming and fascinating and can be discovered on foot or by bicycle. The Dungun night market is also great fun. The surrounding region is also rich in natural beauty and the resort can arrange a variety of activities such as river safaris through the jungle and trips to local waterfalls.
The snorkeling and diving in this area are excellent and the nearby Tengoll Island is part of the fabulous Terengganu Marine Park. The hotel has its own PADI Dive Center and caters to every level of experience. There is also a watersports center offering a whole host of non-d watersports for guests to enjoy.
In 2007 the Spa Village at Tanjong Jara was named 'Most Innovative Spa' by Tatler and has since been named as the second best spa in the world. The sanctuary is housed in an area of tranquil pools and gardens and the unique restorative Malay therapies have been handed down from generation to generation to provide relaxation, reinvigoration and stress relief based on traditional healing methods.

There are 99 rooms in total at Tanjong Jara. The Bumbung and Serambi Rooms are in a two-storey unit and are similar, with the first floor Bumbung rooms having wonderful views of the ocean and gardens, and below them the Serambi Rooms having the addition of a partially covered veranda. The Anjung Rooms are single storey and are on the beachfront with private outdoor gardens with sunken baths. There are two exclusive, semi-detached room right on the seafront. These Anjung Seafront rooms are are a perfect modern beach hideaway, set right on the beach facing the beautiful turquoise South China Sea.
Children are very welcome to come and stay at Tanjong Jara and family and children's activities (such as batik painting) can be easily arranged. Babysitting is also readily available on request and interconnecting rooms are available.
Di Atas Sungei restaurant sits above the river and has no menu - you simply chat with the chef and Malaysian food to your taste is created for you. The Teratai Terrace sits next to the pool and at the Nelayan you can enjoy seafood with your feet in the sand. Private dining can be arranged in your room, at the beach or at the Teratai Terrace. The hotel's spa is a sanctuary specializing in restorative Malay treatments and there is a PADI dive center, library, two swimming pools and two tennis courts.

Tanjong Jara Resort is situated on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, between Kuala Terengganu in the North and Kuantan in the South. The Resort is built on a 17-hectare site facing the South China Sea. The town of Dungun lies west of Tanjong Jara and is 8km away.
When to go
Best weather between March and September, but as with anywhere in the tropics, afternoon showers shouldn't be a shock. Temperatures rarely drop much below 30 degrees.
