Like the rest of Malaysia, Sabah’s climate is hot and humid. Expect temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s throughout the lowlands. The state’s rainfall averages about 300cm annually and though it rains throughout the year, the heaviest rainfall generally occurs between October and January. At higher elevations the temperature is refreshingly cool, dropping to colder temperatures at night. Mount Kinabalu has its own climate and, above 3500m, temperatures can drop to freezing.
To start planning your vacation to Borneo Eagle Resort
Borneo Eagle is a brand-new property as of 2018 and is easily one of Borneo’s most luxurious beach options. Located on Pulau Tiga, an almost uninhabited island off the coast of Sabah, Borneo Eagle is surrounded by lush vegetation and coral reefs.
Borneo Eagle is a luxury island resort consisting of 13 detached villas, laid out along a stretch of beach on a National Park Island. Here you can enjoy activities such as snorkeling, watersports, hiking, or simply relaxing by the expansive pool.
To access the island, one must drive two hours south of Kota Kinabalu, and then embark on a half hour speedboat journey to the island, ensuring total privacy and exclusivity.
The hotel offers modern and spacious one-bedroom villas, each set in their own private courtyard. Coral Villas are perfect hideaways for honeymooners, tucked amongst the trees at the end of the resort, with direct access to the coral reef just a few steps away. For those wishing to fully relax and unwind, the Spa Villas come with a dedicated spa treatment area, and the Pool Villas offer an inviting salt water plunge pool.
Meals can be taken either in your villa, at the Sand Bar, or at the airy and spacious Eagle’s Nest restaurant, specializing in modern Western and Asian dishes. Fresh produce is brought over from the resort’s organic farms on the mainland, and the menu will change daily depending on seasonality of the ingredients. Guests are invited to mingle at the Eagle’s Landing bar for complimentary sundowners, and wine lovers can request a private tour of the well-stocked wine pavilion with assistance to choose the perfect pairing for their meals.
Facilities include in-villa spa treatments, a fitness center and yoga and Pilates classes on request. Activities include complimentary non-motorized water sports and snorkeling on the islands’ two coral reefs, home to the occasional turtle and harmless blacktip reef sharks. Trekking through the jungle, exploring the nearby mud volcano or simply indulging in a BBQ on a nearby deserted island can also be arranged. Each villa is cared for by a personal butler who will be able to assist with any requests.
Coral Villas are suitable for up to six people, with a spacious bedroom leading onto an open bathroom, and a large living room with a screen for privacy. You can enjoy the sea views from the terrace at the rear of the villa, and just steps away is the beach and the extensive coral reef where you can spot black tip reef sharks, and if you're lucky, a turtle. Perfect for active people as these rooms are located furthest from the restaurant, or for keen swimmers who will enjoy the easy access to the reef.
Spa villas are designed for ultimate relaxation, complete with spa packages and dedicated spa areas in your spacious villa. This villa would suit up to six people and comes with a small garden and delightful wading pool.
For ultimate relaxation, opt for a pool villa, sleeping up to four people with a luxurious saltwater rock pool for swimming overlooking the sea, a sumptuous cabana and spacious interiors. These villas are perfectly located between the restaurant and the pool, with access directly into the sandy sea, just a minute or two swim from the start of the coral reef.
There are no specific facilities for children on the island but each villa has enough space for extra beds, and the children will love the long beach and calm sea.
This resort boasts a large bar/ restaurant by the jetty, as well as a pool bar that is open for light snacks during the day. Meals can be served in your villa or in a series of private dining locations, including on the roof of the well stocked wine pavilion.
Here guests can enjoy a variety of motorized and non motorized watersports, trips out to nearby Snake island for snorkeling and a picnic on the sandspit, or simply enjoying the two home reefs directly in front of the resort.
Hiking is also available and it is possible to walk around the island in approximately 5 hours accompanied by a member of recreation staff. Hikes to the small nearby mud volcano, or the larger one further into the jungle are also fun. The mud is thought to have rejuvenative properties for the skin, so wear old clothes and prepare to get throughly muddy! You can always run straight into the sea back at the resort.
