Even though based in the heart of Gora, Gora Tensui promotes the feeling of relaxation with its light and airy feel, created largely by its use of panoramic windows bringing the outside in. One of the many joys of Hakone are the ever changing colors of the surrounding countryside highlighting the change of seasons and Gora Tensui can really be enjoyed in them all.
The main draw and purpose of staying in a ryokan is to take life slow, luxuriating in the pampering service and this is no different in Gora Tensui. This modern style ryokan offers both traditional Japanese style bedrooms with tatami mats and futons for sleeping or have a more Western style set up with king and double beds. The simplicity of the rooms promotes a meditative feeling of relaxation with some rooms coming equipped with their own private baths and open air onsens. For rooms without these facilities, there beautiful public onsens and sauana facilities for which the ryokan is especially known for.
Traditional Kaiseki meals are a highlight of staying in a ryokan, which each course being presented even more beautifully than the last and breakfast and dinner are served in the main dining room. Service at Gora Tensui is a highllight with a hugely welcoming team willing and able to assist with every request.
As with most ryokans the design of the rooms is simple and uses natural earthy tones to further encourage the sense of relaxation. At Gora Tensui there is a mix of both traditional Japanese rooms with futons placed each night on the tatami mats and more Western style rooms with twin and double beds. Most rooms have mountain views and there is a range of larger more spacious rooms to choose from that come complete with their own outdoor baths and balconies overlooking the stunning countryside beyond.
Children are welcome at Gora Tensui with a number of rooms that can be set up to accommodate larger parties and dietary requirements and requests are seamlessly caterered for at the ryokan.
Alongside the pampering hot spring foot bath that guests are welcomed with at Gora Tensui, there are also spa facilities in the form of the public onsen, sauna and massages. Dinner and breakfast are served in the main dining room and there is also a cafe on site for those that get peckish between the beautiful and sumptuous Kaiseki meals.
Much of spending time in Hakone is about relaxing and unwinding in your beautiful surroundings. However, outside of this there are a whole host of activities available in the surrounding area of Gora and Hakone National Park. Hakone is especially known for its art museums and collections and there are a number of sites available on your doorstep, the most wellknown being The Hakone Open Air Museum. For the more active, there are extensive hiking trails easily reachable from Gora Tensui providing an invigorating and rejuvenating stay.

When to go
Hakone is characterized by a mild climate with high precipitation. The climate here is much cooler than it is in Tokyo. The best time to visit Hakone is from April to November.
