Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – wet and dry – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Indonesia at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

Amanwana Komodo Dragon Expedition provides a week long adventure on board the luxury Amanikan, exploring several islands in Indonesia's pristine eastern archipelago including a chance to experience the fascinating Komodo dragons up close.

The Amanwana Komodo Expedition is a seven night adventure like no other. With five nights cruising on board the luxury Amanikan, and two nights on the island of Moyo at Amanwana this is a truly breathtaking experience.

Amanikan is a 32 metre custom built wooden cruiser designed to fuse traditional elements of a spice trading vessel with modern comfort. Amanikan is ideal as a private charter for a couple, a family or a small group. The boat supports a crew of ten including a dive instructor and a chef.

Amanikan is furnished with teak, rattan and other locally sourced materials and fabrics are creams and white. The main lounge serves as a bar and sunbathing spot and meals are prepared from the freshest of ingredients and combine international dishes and local fare.

You will encounter amazing creatures that are unchanged since prehistoric times, and visit the only two islands in the world supporting the Komodo dragon’s natural habitat. Cruising through these beautiful turquoise clear waters experience some of the world’s most diverse and pristine underwater sites whilst being looked after in luxury on board your private vessel.

Amanikan has three above deck cabins. The expansive Master Cabin at the stern of the foredeck provides 270 degree views and a large private sundeck. The main deck also accommodates a second double cabin with private balcony and a smaller third cabin with a semi private sundeck in front of the wheelhouse. All cabins have vaulted 2 metre high ceilings, air-conditioning and en-suite facilities.

Both Amanikan and Amanwana have good facilities for children with special meals, equipment and lots of fun activities included along the way to keep your little ones engaged, educated and happy.

A power cruiser accompanies the boat to take you off for day excursions and fishing. On board there are sun loungers, snorkelling and diving equipment for six guests as well as an experienced dive instructor.

Included are three - four dives per person per day on board and one day per person per day at Amanwana. Snorkelling and non-motorised watersports are also included.

The Amanikan is the newest addition to Amanwana’s fleet of vessels and is undoubtedly the most luxurious. A 32 metre vessel, built in the style of a traditional Indonesian Phinisi boat, it is the only way to see the lesser-travelled islands of the Archipelago in style. Each of the 3 vaulted, air conditionaed cabins is decked out in the understated elegance of Aman (think custom made teak furnishings, rattan weave walls, and a soothing palette of taupe, honey and white), with amazing windows (no portholes here) and the most comfortable beds. You every whim is catered for on board by the charming crew, from delicioud cuisine prepared in the outdoor galley or on the outdoor BBQ for that catch of the day.

The diving and snorkelling is out of this world, with over 1,200 species of fish and 250 types of coral - and new ones are still being discovered. The sheer biodiversity is amazing and virtually anything can be found in these waters, from the rare mimic octopus to warm-water killer whales. The quantity of marine life is staggering, and much of it is remarkably unafraid of divers. Snorkelers will be spoilt with some of the best sites in Indonesia, while those who stay above water will have an equally amazing time, observing the world’s largest lizard in its natural habitat. The utterly prehistoric looking, 12’ long Komodo Dragon is a sight to behold, with poisonous venom and a very menacing smile!
