Accommodation

There are a total of 11 wooden bungalows and villas at Sanak Retreat, all of which are made from teak and artfully furnished with quirky, locally crafted pieces. The bungalows are rustic and quite small but are perfect for a retreat to the Munduk countryside and jungle.

Rice Paddy Bungalow

There are 6 cosy Rice Paddy Bungalows which are located amongst the rice fields and accessed by wooden pathways. The bungalows are rather small with a king bed and a shower-only bathroom, but are also equipped with a charming terrace with tremendous views to the mountains. An extra bed (single) can be fitted into the room, however, it would be a tight squeeze.

Sanak House

The Sanak House is a three bedroom villa, located away from the other bungalows. The villa is much more spacious and is a super choice for guests wanting greater privacy. As well as three double bedrooms (all en-suite), the villa also has its own private pool, indoor/outdoor living area, and a private meditation deck.

Sunset/Sunrise Bungalows

The two bedroom Sunset/Sunrise Bungalows are set over two storeys and have both a ground floor terrace and a lovely balcony on the other side of the building, meaning you get to see both sunrise and sunset from your bungalow. There are two king beds, one on each floor, but both of the bedrooms share a small bathroom.

Childcare

Children are very welcome at Sanak Retreat, although no formal children's activities or facilities are available, apart from babysitting, which can be arranged on request, and a very small children's corner.

Facilities

Sanak Retreat has a lovely, large swimming pool, located in front of the restaurant, which has wonderful views across the surrounding rice fields. The property also has a yoga and meditation deck, a small kid's craft corner, and a library where you can enjoy the read of a good book.

There is a small onsite restaurant called Sanak Kitchen Table & Bar, which serves both Indonesian and western fare, and a bar where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage. If you're looking for more privacy, private dining can also be arranged, either in your bungalow or within the surrounding local area with your very own private chef and waiter.

Sanak Retreat also has a good sized spa where you can indulge in a relaxing Balinese massage or a treatment using handcrafted scrubs, moisturising masks or wraps. The spa menu changes through the season with only natural products being used and, where possible, locally sourced.

Sanak Retreat is a charming property, located up in the hills of Munduk, and is a great addition to any Bali itinerary. The property is much more rustic and simple compared to other hotels in Ubud or at the beaches in the south, but offers the chance to see a completely different side to Bali. The property is completely surrounded by lush, verdant rice paddies which are absolutely stunning - they're also working fields so during your stay you will regularly see the local farmers tending to them. The bungalows are very small and minimalist, however they're clean and comfortable, and act as a good base to discover the surrounding countryside on daily walks, bike rides and horse treks. The main swimming pool is also a great place to relax at with a book in hand.
