A beautifully designed colonial style hotel with luxurious rooms that all have great views either over the rivers or mountains. It's in a great location, only a five minute walk to the subway station or a few minutes away from local restaurants and shops. The food and service are top notch and there's also a great pool which is a welcome escape from the busy city.

Island Shangri-La is a fantastic family friendly option in Hong Kong. It has a great location and good access to the city. Hong Kong is so accessible and manageable it is so easy to get around anyway but the Island Shangri-La makes it that bit easier. It also has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and polished service making it a great option in the city.

If budget allows, I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Horizon Club. Since the area was refurbished relatively recently, it is one of the best hotel Clubs I have ever seen. The rooms are on the 52nd floor upwards so the views are amazing - I think a Harbour view is always a must, particularly if it is your first visit to Hong Kong. As well as access to the rooftop garden and Club Lounge for breakfast and evening cocktails, guests can staying in the Horizon Club can also have breakfast in the Michelin-starred Petrus. We took advantage of this and it was amazing - delicious food and stunning views across the whole of Victoria Harbour - it is almost worth the upgrade just for this!

The Island Shangri-La is in a great location if you would like to get out and explore Hong Kong Island. It is in Pacific Place, home to lots of malls including a huge one right under the hotel. You can also walk through Hong Kong Park to get the tram up to the Peak, there is an MTR station within walking distance and you do not miss out on the harbor views as the hotel is so tall and the views are amazing. It is also a great option for families with a lovely outdoor pool a rarity in this bustling city!
