Xian and the surrounding regions experience four distinct seasons and a continental climate. Summers are hot and humid, with maximum temperatures often above 40°C, however the monsoon season brings plenty of rainfall to temper the scorching heat. Winters are cool and dry, and not unpleasant for exploring the sights of the region, but cold weather clothing and layers are advisable as temperatures drop to freezing. Spring is pleasantly warm, with gentle breezes and long sunny days, making March through to May the best times to visit Xian. Autumn temperatures are similarly mild; however, September and October often bring frequent rain showers.

To start planning your holiday to Sofitel Legend People's Grand Hotel Xian

A former state guesthouse opened in 1953, the Sofitel Legend People's Grand Hotel in the historic Old City of Xian offers a real sense of grandeur for your stay in this ancient former capital.

This grand building is reminiscent of the spectacular Soviet Palaces of Russia, built to impress and display a sense of power and luxury. All the rooms are extremely spacious and enjoy high ceilings, elegant decor and original classical features. The Sofitel Legend is an intimate and charming hotel that would not feel out of place on a Parisian courtyard.

Located within the ancient city walls of Xian, the hotel is perfectly situated for easy access by foot to the main cultural sites of the ancient city of Xian including the Islamic Quarter, Wild Goose Pagoda and the ancient city walls.

As soon as you walk into this incredible hotel, you will be warmly greeted by your personal butler who will create an utterly seamless stay for you from start to finish. With a long and legendary history acting as Xian base to dignitaries across the globe for over 60 years from 1953, Sofitel Legend is well placed to continue as the most luxurious hotel in the city. Nowadays, the Sofitel Legend continues to treat all of its guests with the same personalised service enjoyed by the VVIPS of the 20th Century.

The hotel has a striking restaurant, La Dolce Vita, which offers authentic Italian cuisine. Alongside this there are two bars - the residential 1953 Lobby Lounge provides the perfect location for afternoon tea or cocktails whilst the smaller more exclusive Louis XIII Bar serves a collection of rare cognac and other special alcohols.

There are two separate bars at the hotel with the 1953 Lobby Lounge providing a relaxed 'at home' feel and venue for the hotel's daily happy hour. Stepping into the Sofitel you feel immediately like youve been transported into another era. Marble and monochrome surround you and the whole place gives off a wonderful feeling of the past. For me it definitely felt more like a Parisian Hotel than being in one of Chinas most ancient cities. The rooms are spacious, full with more marble and stylish touches like claw footed bath tubs. The location is ideal for walking into the Muslim Quarter of Xian famous for its street food. There are gardens bordering the back of the hotel where you can sit out in the morning and watch local residents doing Tai Chi. Guests also have access to the full facilities of the neighbouring larger Sofitel including its excellent swimming pool. Its a fantastic hotel and the perfect place to retreat back to after a day spent learning about the fascinating Terracotta Warriors.

Located away from the crowds of Xian the Sofitel Legend provides an oasis in the city. This boutique 71 room hotel is beautifully designed with a definite French feel. Each room comes equipped with butler service which makes it feel that bit more special.
