Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Shanghai and eastern China’s subtropical climate brings with it four distinct seasons. The weather is generally mild and temperate, with a great deal of rainfall even in the drier months of the year. The frequent monsoon showers and scorching temperatures of June, July and August can make it uncomfortably humid, with the mercury regularly rising over 35°C. Winter is overcast and chilly, although snow seldom falls in this eastern region of China. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Shanghai and eastern China, with pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists.

One of the newest luxury hotels in Shanghai the Mandarin Oriental is sleek, modern and impeccably run. It is located on the quitter and more business orientated side of the River known as Pudong so Id recommend it for those who have visited the city before and do not need to be so centrally located. The rooms are very modern with fantastic views from their floor to ceiling windows and a number of the bathrooms have wonderful tubs with views out over the skyline of the city perfect for long relaxing soaks after a long day. There is a fantastic pool and huge fitness center and the hotel is also home to one of the citys best western restaurants Fifty 8 Grill.

The Mandarin Oriental is one of the newest 5* hotels in Shanghai and feels pristine with top class service. Everything in the hotel feels of amazing high quality and the hotel has beautiful views over the river dividing the Pudong and Puxi sides of Shanghai. Breakfast was a real treat here with everything that you could possibly want under the sun and pastries that tasted like they had come from a little boutique patisserie in France - I could have been there for hours sampling everything - it was just so good.
