Average time to visit

The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March, and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.

Insider's View

If traveling during the rainy season, make sure you get a waterproof poncho which you can buy at base camp. The drive up the mountain is in open-backed trucks so it can get wet!

Description

Mountain Top Hotel is located about a five-minute walk from the Golden Rock Pagoda on top of Mount Kyaiktiyo. It is quite simple and basic with minimal facilities, but comfortable and clean with stunning views to the mountains below.

The Golden Rock is one of the most iconic Buddhist sites in Burma and Buddhists from around the world make pilgrimages to Mount Kyaiktiyo to visit the site. It is believed that the Golden Rock itself defies gravity and is floating a hair's breadth above the rock it sits on, built on top of a hair of the Buddha himself.

Mountain Top Hotel is located just a five-minute walk from this legendary pagoda and makes for a comfortable and convenient stay for those wishing to visit it. The Mountain Top Hotel is quite simple in style and facilities and the views from the rooms over the mountains below are stunning.

The hotel has six Standard Rooms, 43 Deluxe Rooms and three Super Deluxe Rooms. The rooms are split between five buildings, and are mostly twin bedded. All rooms have a sunrise mountain view. One of the Super Deluxe Rooms has a view of the pagoda itself. Rooms measure approximately 30 square meters and bathrooms are equipped with a toilet, shower and sink. Deluxe Rooms have ceiling fans while Super Deluxe Rooms have air-conditioning, and more amenities such as tea and coffee. There is a restaurant serving Burmese and Chinese food.

Accommodation

The hotel has six Standard Rooms, 43 Deluxe Rooms and three Super Deluxe Rooms. The rooms are split between five buildings, and are mostly twin bedded, but there are six triple rooms and five with king-sized beds. None of the rooms can interconnect.

Deluxe Room

There are 43 Deluxe Rooms which have ceiling fans.

Super Deluxe Room

There are three Super Deluxe Rooms, which have air-conditioning and more amenities than Deluxe Rooms such as tea and coffee in the room. All rooms have a sunrise mountain view, but one Super Deluxe Room has a view of the pagoda as well.

Childcare

Children are welcome at the hotel but there are no childcare facilities in place. We don't really recommend families with young children travel here due to the very bumpy ride up the mountain.

Facilities

There is a restaurant serving Burmese and Chinese cuisine, as well as a lounge where tea and coffee can be served. There is complimentary WiFi available in the hotel lobby. Rooms are equipped with mini-bars which are chargeable, but bottled water is provided with the hotel's compliments.
