Set within 30 acres of land, the Kalaw Hill Lodge is an ideal destination for those who want a base from which to explore the surrounding, off-the-beaten track countryside. Visit the local farm, head off on a day walk through local villages, go off mountain biking or take a more adventurous trek staying overnight in local homes. The lodge is very close to the colonial railway line, and this can work well as a unique experience whilst staying at the lodge. A big highlight is to visit the Green Valley Elephant Camp where you can feed and wash the resident elephants. The area is also great if you like birdlife and they can arrange experiences based around your specific interests.
There are 32 rooms, all featuring en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and either a balcony or veranda. There are centrally located communal areas featuring a large lobby upstairs and a dining room downstairs.
The rooms all have views over the mountains and all are 35sqm, either on the first floor with a balcony or on the ground floor with a terrace. All feature a fireplace, TVs, en-suite bathrooms, safe deposit box and mini bar.
Location & Directions
Kalaw is located in southern Shan State and links very easily with a visit to Inle Lake.
When to go
The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March, and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
