Titilaka is one of the most well-done boutiques that you will ever stay at. Although its location is a bit difficult to get to, you will realize that the journey is well worth it.  Every room offers stunning views of Lake Titicaca and you can even choose your room based on whether you want to see the sunrise or sunset. Titilaka owns two boats and runs day excursions to the floating island communities and the famous island of Taquile. Or you can choose to hop on the lodge's bicycles for a half-day biking excursion around the lake. Titilaka has something for everyone!

I don't think I've ever seen a sky so perfectly blue as here at Titilaka, the most amazing way to finish a trip to Peru. The hotel really makes the most of its tranquil lake setting, with spectacular views from all sides, and it would be the perfect place to relax after hiking the Central Valley and Machu Picchu. There are lots of interesting modern art pieces by artist Frederico Bauer which gives the hotel a funky twist. Food and service were second to none and we were so well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. There are a heap of activities you can do too, both near the hotel and further afield, but a visit to the floating islands is a must and the most iconic experience when at Lake Titicaca.

Located on the shores of Lake Titicaca surrounded by traditional rural communities, Titilaka offers guests not only the highest levels of comfort and style, but also an insight into a part of Peru that few other tourists are able to experience. The hotel itself has been beautifully designed the huge windows maximizing the mesmerizing views of the lake and there are plenty of areas to relax and take it all in, whether in a deep sofa by the fireplace or outside on one of the draped day beds. The guestrooms feature deep mattresses, butter-soft bed linen and on cold nights hot bottles are a glorious surprise. The dawn, dusk rooms and corner suites have standalone bathtubs and separate rain showers there are a few rooms which connect which also makes it appealing to families.

The hotel offers guests a full experience, including three delicious meals as well as cocktails and canaps before dinner and choices of superb guided boat trips to the fascinating Uros and Taquile islands and visits to a local weaving community, pre-Colombian and Inca burial tombs, the unique weekend market at nearby Acora where bartering is still common practice as well as a choice of water based activities from sailing to Stand up Paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and on terra firma, mountain bikes are the ideal way to explore and witness the local communities at work.

Don't let the minimalist exterior or remote location of Titilaka mislead you-the hotel's privileged location makes it the ideal getaway for guests who insist on privacy; the experience is exclusive and unmistakably five star.

Upon check in, oxygen is offered to alleviate the potentially dizzying effects of altitude. After all, the 18-room boutique property is situated at 12,500 ft. The lobby feels more like a comfortable, yet chic living room, where guests engage in easy conversation, imbibe daily at a very civilized cocktail hour, or make use the hotel's Mac computer and free Wi-Fi.

Rooms are modern, airy and bright; décor is punctuated with fuchsia hues, the color of the sacred Incan cantu flower. Sweet-dream-inducing king-sized beds kitted in crisp white linens face floor to ceiling windows. These have spectacular lake views, with the rooms aptly dubbed dusk or dawn, depending upon the direction the room faces. Complimentary minibars boast red, white and sparkling wines, as well as an assortment of sodas and snacks. The only flaw in the layout is that upon entering the room, his and her basin sinks and vanity space flank one wall, while a separate bathroom and shower stall line the other. Despite the always appreciated heated floor amenity, the intermingling of bathroom and bedroom does not allow for much privacy. Some rooms have bathtubs, others are shower-only.

Far from the hustle and haphazard bustle of Puno, Titilaka is pure paradise for honeymooners, photographers and bird watching enthusiasts. Titilaka has managed to seamlessly merge the rich influences of the surrounding Andean community with an idyllic upscale experience, while respecting its undisturbed natural beauty as a carbon-neutral property. Sometimes, a stay at a luxury property can feel fraught with formalities and details, but from the moment you enter Titilaka, the slow idyll and sophistication feels just right.
