Santiago is a year-round destination but the most pleasant months to visit are October to April. Although summer (November to April) is hot, breezes disperse the smog that shrouds the city for most of the year and there is lots of sunshine. Over winter (June to September) you’ll see the Andes wreathed in snow and can ski nearby, but the weather is chilly and rain can be an issue. Spring-like September is Chile's national independence month, and is full of activity.

The Mandarin Oriental Santiago (formerly Grand Hyatt) is located in an exclusive residential neighborhood of Chile's cosmopolitan capital, 20 minutes from the city center and one hour’s drive from the most important ski resorts and the coastline. Each of the 310 elegant and chic rooms and suites command spectacular views of the city and the majestic Andes Mountain Range beyond. The rooms are larger than average and have separate comfortable seating areas.
The hotel has three wonderful restaurants serving fabulous Mediterranean, Chilean and international cuisine. All the dining areas have terraces overlooking beautiful flowering gardens, palm trees and waterfalls. For your leisure and relaxation there is a great health and fitness center, two tennis courts and a lagoon-style swimming pool surrounded by landscaped gardens and cascades.
The Mandarin Oriental has 310 luxury rooms and suites, in several categories, ranging from Grand Deluxe rooms right up to the Presidential Suite. The modern décor of the rooms features crisp white linens and subtle earthy tones. The spacious rooms have views of the city, the Andes or the gardens and all have a separate sitting area, Bang & Olufsen television, minibar, air-conditioning, stereo system and locally produced amenities.
Children are very welcome at the Mandarin Oriental and are sure to love the hotel's vast outdoor pool. Babysitting can be arranged and cribs and extra beds can be provided on request.
The Mandarin Oriental has excellent facilities including spacious seating areas, a health and fitness center, two tennis courts and a large outdoor swimming pool with waterfall. There are also two wine caves and three superb restaurants, serving Mediterranean, Chilean and international cuisine, with terraces overlooking beautiful gardens, palm trees and waterfalls. For some luxury pampering indulge in a massage or facial at the hotel's Ako spa.
There is plenty to keep guests busy at the Grand Hyatt, with its pool, gym, fitness center, spa and tennis courts, plus one of the most exclusive golf clubs in Santiago just a few steps away. Guests can also explore downtown Santiago, with its many interesting museums, take an excursion to a vineyard in the Central Valley wine region or visit the historic town of Valparaíso.
If the Ritz is old-world glamour, the Hyatt is pure nouveau riche and, not surprisingly for one of the Hyatt's flagship hotels, the amenities are without peer. The expansive foyer surrounds a 24-story atrium tower with two adjacent wings and glass elevators that whisk guests up to their split-level rooms and terraced suites. Nestling among tranquil, colorful gardens, there is a large palm-and-fern-fringed pool complete with a plunging waterfall and poolside bar. Guests in suites enjoy their own 16th-floor private lounge for lingering over breakfast and soaking up the spectacular view. With all manner of sporting activities on hand and the best gym/spa of any hotel in Santiago, the Hyatt is a joy for weary travelers keen to devote themselves to serious relaxation and pampering. Should you choose to leave, however, you'll need to take a taxi because the location at the head of a crazy traffic loop makes it difficult to walk anywhere from here.
