Originally dating back to 1870, and surrounded by beautiful vineyards and parkland filled
with araucarias, oaks, palms and tulip trees, Las Majadas de Colchagua offers a window into the traditional winemaking and hospitality of the Colchagua Valley.
It is a delightful place to stay, relax and learn about traditional winemaking methods. The main house has been recently renovated and nowadays offers 12 guest rooms attractively fitted out in wood and brick in keeping with the colonial architecture, and overlooking the well-tended gardens. Public areas are decorated with period antiques, and feature spacious corridors and galleries.
The winery is family-run by the Bisquertt family, and produces some excellent wines, and you can learn all about the traditional winemaking process here on one of the property’s wine tours. All wines are estate bottled, and the 1,320 acres of vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Syrah and Malbec grapes.
After lunch take advantage of the opportunities to visit nearby Santa Cruz with its excellent museums, go for a horseback ride sampling the delights of the surrounding Chilean countryside, take a leisurely stroll in the gardens, relax by the pool, or perhaps venture further afield to visit other wineries in the region. In the evening dinner is a special experience - enjoy a first-class meal paired with spectacular wines in the dining room painted with frescoes and murals.

When to go
Santiago is a year-round destination but the most pleasant months to visit are October to April. Although summer (November to April) is hot, breezes disperse the smog that shrouds the city for most of the year and there is lots of sunshine. Over winter (June to September) you’ll see the Andes wreathed in snow and can ski nearby, but the weather is chilly and rain can be an issue. Spring-like September is Chile's national independence month, and is full of activity.
