The Central Valley is a year-round destination but the most pleasant months to visit are October to April. Summer (November to April) is hot, and there is lots of sunshine. Over winter (June to September) you’ll see the Andes wreathed in snow but the weather is chilly and rain can be an issue. Spring-like September is Chile's national independence month, and is full of activity.
If you are arriving around lunchtime and it's sunny day opt for the picnic rather than the restaurant lunch. The staff will accompany you into the beautiful and extensive gardens, choose a patch of grass as far or as close to the hotel as you wish and enjoy an indulgent, homemade picnic with a bottle of Santa Rita wine out in the sunshine.

Located at the foot of the Andes mountains in Chile's Maipo Valley, the historic Hotel Casa Real sits on the site of the Santa Rita winery and offers charming, traditional accommodation just a short walk from the vineyards where the wine is produced.
Acres of sprawling gardens surround hotel Casa Real, a classic property in the heart of Chile's Maipo Valley wine growing region, which sits at the foot of the Andes mountains. Casa Real is a part of the historic Santa Rita winery which was founded in 1880, just before the 40-hectare park which envelopes the hotel.
It has just 16 rooms which look out over a beautiful courtyard and fountains from expansive floor to ceiling windows, each elegant and traditional in style with modern bathrooms. The property has an overall feeling of stepping back in time and stays true to its colonial roots, with much of its original architecture still in tact. Classic furnishings are complemented by high ceilings and heavy floral drapes.
Wine tastings are a focus of a stay here, and there is plenty of opportunity to tour the vineyards and the bodega where the wine is produced. Food in the restaurant is delicious and homemade, with a focus on traditional Chilean cuisine. Dishes are centerd around meat or fish (dietary restrictions can be catered for, just let us know!) and there are options for each of the three courses.
There are 16 rooms at Hotel Casa Real, all with floor to ceiling windows looking out over a pretty courtyard and fountain or over the surrounding park. Each has a separate lounge area and a modern ensuite bathroom, while the bedroom decor remains firmly traditional.
The food served at the hotel is homemade, Chilean fare centerd around meat or fish (although dietary requirements can be catered for). There is also a separate grill restaurant which is open to visitors to the vineyard, as well as hotel guests.
Guests can choose from a variety of sunset wine tastings.and staff can set up a tasting in the common area based on any preferences. On arrival you will be presented with a brochure of the available wines to choose from, as well as a variety of tours of the vineyard and wine facilities.

A beautifully classical hotel that almost feels like its been captured in the past and is set to stay that way forever. Located in the Maipu valley, the main hotel is set in an elegant, country house from the 19th century, built around a pretty paved courtyard. The real beauty of the hotel lies in the extensive gardens, described as the 'park' the pathways are lined with huge oaks, wine palms, beautiful flowers from pianees to bourgainvillia and large patches of lush green grass that are perfect for an afternoon picnic. Included in your stay is Sunset wine tasting at dusk, just before dinner. I would recommend sitting out of the veranda overlooking the vibrant violet bourgainvillia and the wide, stone staircase that leads into the gardens, it's a beautiful spot to watch the sunset set behind the tall palms.
You also have Santa Rita winery on your doorstep, one of the first and most famous in the country so doing a tour and tasting is an absolute must. It gives you a real insight into not only the wine but the historical importance of the family house that has become Casa Real Hotel.

Arriving at this oasis of calm is a must at the beginning of a long flight or to relax at the end of a trip exploring the Atacama and Patagonia. Diego and his team make you feel so welcome and share the history and stories of this historical mansion with its Italianate and French influence overlooking graceful gardens and a beautiful park. Sit on their veranda at sunset tasting their word class wines taking in the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful estate. Walk through the park to their winery and enjoy lunch in the Spanish style Dona Paula restaurant before a wine tasting and guided tour through their century old cellars steeped in the history of 120 Chilean patriots who were given sanctuary during the revolution. Charming suites overlooking a shady courtyard with a tinkling fountain or the gardens are a perfect place to relax or take a stroll down to their pool set amongst wisteria and roses in the beautifully laid out gardens. Do not miss a visit to see the inside of the magnificent chapel whose frescoes and painted ceilings reflect the Italian style and some of the paintings were done by the man who helped with the restoration of the Sistine Chapel. This is a very special place that needs time to explore and savour.

Casa Real is great for guests who have an interest in wine and history. It is quite formal, and traditional, so that would need to appeal. It isn't child friendly for that reason. The grounds and garden were beautiful, and the wine tasting there was very enjoyable. The service was very attentive and the food was good. I would recommend it for a one or two night stay when traveling in or out of Santiago.
