Day time temperatures are luminous and agreeable all year round. A characteristic of the desert climate is the marked fluctuation in temperature between day and night. In winter (June, July and August) the average temperature is 22ºC during the day and at night it goes down to around 4ºC; temperatures can occasionally go below freezing. In summer (December to February) the temperature varies between 28ºC during the day and 16ºC at night. During these months the temperature can reach 32ºC. January-March can sometimes receive a little rainfall and cloudy skies.
On February 2, the biggest festival in San Pedro, Festival de la Candelaria, features a large parade of bands and dancers.

Awasi is unique in that if offers every guest their own guide/driver to take you on the excursions into The Atacama each day. You decide and create what your day should include then they will make it happen. Incredible food and wine, fabulous service and a totally intimate experience only missing the views that other lodges in The Atacama can claim fame for. Somewhere that very much caters to couples who want to be very much pampered in a small intimate property.

The attractions of the Atacama desert with its mesmerizing desert scenery, mountains and volcanoes, salt flats and geysers are endless and the Awasi Atacama is the only luxury lodge in the village of San Pedro de Atacama to offer a private experience for its guests. Each room comes with its own vehicle and guide which means you can tailor your experience to your interests, whether photography, adventure (mountain biking, hiking or horseback riding), local culture or wildlife. The lodge is discreetly hidden behind adobe walls which typify the region and is totally dedicated to the privacy of its guests. With only 8 rooms but lots of relaxing open-air terraces, cosy sitting areas, fire-pits and a small outdoor pool there is plenty of space for guests to keep to themselves or mingle with other guests.
You don't expect to find one of the world's top hotels in the world's driest desert. Awasi is a peaceful retreat from the hurly-burly. Each of its eight adobe 'cottages' comes with a guide and a 4x4 to take you exploring, but without TV or DVD. The point is nature - volcanoes, salt lakes, hiking and biking, and flamingos by the thousand.
Awasi, a luxury hotel built in local materials (adobe, wood, stone and straw) which have been cleverly used to create an environment of casually refined simplicity. The open, beautifully landscaped external areas include a shaded pool set within ancient stone walls, and the extremely comfortable accommodation comprises eight double rooms in adobe cottages. With 43 staff the quality of service and attention to detail is as remarkable as the setting. Cooking in the middle of a desert can't be easy and yet the food is consistently good, serving a selection of home-cooked delicacies including purple potatoes, pasteca (a traditional pork stew) and quinoa; and at dus an oven is stoked for the next day's bread. And no other hotel in the area allocates a four-wheel-drive or a vehicle and a driver to each room. This means that you can go anywhere you want at any time, and hiking, riding, climbing or bike riding can be arranged. And after a day's exploring, the Awasi's outdoor bar with its open fire is the place to relax with a glass of cold white Chilean wine.
