To start planning your vacation to Pousada Picinguaba
Pousada Picinguaba is a traditional converted fazenda in a tiny fishing village surrounded by tropical rainforest and mountainous peaks. The hotel is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the heart of a protected national park.
All of the nine guest rooms, each with private balconies, have attractive views over the bay or gardens. There is also a restaurant serving mouth watering local dishes using freshly caught fish from the bay and organic ingredients sourced from the hotel's very own farm.
Sail to deserted islands on the hotel’s 40ft schooner, picnic on secluded beaches, enjoy delicious cuisine, hike within the forest to natural pools, bathe in nearby waterfalls and visit the nearby colonial town of Paraty. Other activities include fishing, hiking, sailing, kayaking and surfing.
Everything here is attuned to the laid back spirit of the place, with nothing to disturb nature's magic: no TVs or telephones in the rooms, no Internet or no air-conditioning (ceiling fans). Pousada Picinguaba is the ideal place to relax and unwind with just the sound of the wind in the palm trees and the sea gently lapping the shore.
Pousada Picinguaba also operates a charming, beautifully decorated private house called Villa Verde which is only 10 meters from the Pousada's entrance. The house and terrace are approximately 180m2, and can accommodate between 2 and 6 guests, ideally 4. It a great option for families. Guests staying in the Villa are very welcome to use the hotel's facilities and services.
The nine rooms are simple but comfortable, leading out onto a vast garden with the sea as a backdrop. Overgrown luscious tropical flowers and plants form natural screens for the rooms, with hummingbirds as visitors. There is no TV, telephone or internet.
Nine rooms are double or twin, some with an extra bed, and there is also a honeymoon suite with Jacuzzi and terrace with sea views. Each room has a private balcony with a hammock.
For more space and exclusivity, you can choose the Villa Casa Verde. Located next to the hotel, it enjoys all the pousada's services and has three rooms, of which one is a suite with private patio, a large terrace, and the option of private dining. Ideal for a family the home accommodates up to six people.
Children are welcome to come and stay at Pousada Picinguaba and babysitting can be arranged upon request, but there are no specific facilities or interconnecting rooms.

When to go
High season is generally December to April when it's warm and humid. The coastal location ensures that temperatures rarely exceed 30°C and generally do not fall below 13°C (night-time in July). Even in winter (June-September), when rates are lower, daytime temperatures usually reach 21°C. This can be a lovely time to visit as it is warm in the day, cooler at night and drier. Rainfall is a possibility throughout the year, but the peak summer months of January and February often experience heavier showers. Christmas, New Year, January, Carnival, Easter and Paraty's International Literary Festival (normally held in July) are high season and hotels will be busy.
