Go in low season (March-June and October-December) to avoid the crowds and the heat. It can be quite cool from July to August (usually in the low 20°C's). The hottest time is from December to February, when temperatures often reach 30°C and above and it can be humid with frequent short bursts of rain. This is also the busiest time of year (New Year is one big party). Weekends are also busier than weekdays here.

Insolito is without doubt the top option in Buzios, and I loved its location - close enough to the action but on the other side of the peninsula and therefore very peaceful. I loved the rooms, which are all different, and a great deal of care has gone into the design, with different Brazilian artists commissioned for each room. Although the restuarnt isn't that great, this is not really too great a problem, as you are spoiled for choice in Buzios. I really liked the chill-out areas and the beach bar is very funky.
Located in the fashionable area of Buzios, Insolito Boutique Hotel offers a lovely base from which to explore all of the shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Each room has cozy robes and towels, a wet bar, and some rooms offer a Jacuzzi on the balcony, while all have gorgeous views of the sea. Enjoy a relaxing day by the fresh or sea water pools, take a picnic to one of Buzios’ stunning beaches or experience a relaxing treatment at the wellness center. If excitement is more your taste, water ski or wakeboard at Ferradura Beach, or kite surf on Manguinho’s Beach. In the evening, dine in the restaurant, which is located on the roof of the hotel, and which serves seasonal Brazilian cuisine.
