The weather is good almost all year round in Salta and the north west in general. It’s warm and dry in winter (June to September) though it gets cold at night. Summer (December to February) is hot and there’s no air conditioning in most rooms. Avoid the rainy season of February to March, when many of the roads to places you'll want to explore may be impassable due to flooding.

Finca Valentina is a charming, small boutique hotel at the foot of the Andes, just outside Salta in Northwest Argentina. A refurbished country house, it maintains the local traditional architecture with the layout, light and comfort of modern living.
A chic, charming and affordable rustic retreat, Finca Valentina is ideally based for a dose of relaxation in Argentina’s northwest, and offers authentic hospitality and delicious home-cooked cuisine. It’s the perfect place to kick back for a few days, enjoying the pool, the lovely views and the atmosphere, with a glass of Malbec in hand, or possibly take a trip to explore the fascinating landscapes and cultures of the northwest. Staying here is like being with relaxed, very welcoming friends.
The seven bedrooms evoke simple luxury with large beds, hand-carved rocking chair with a soft woollen blanket for the chilly winter evenings, and picture-perfect views out to the garden and mountains beyond. There are plenty of thoughtful touches such as the bowls of roses placed around the house.
Meals are taken in the finca’s living and dining area, a welcoming, intimate space of deep white sofas, hide-strapped chairs, and carefully placed gaucho artifacts. Candlelit at night and open-fired in winter, this is sophisticated country eating at its best. Drinks are served at the table with cigars, in front of the fire, or out on the veranda as you count the stars.
During your stay, you can go out riding, take some cookery classes to learn how to make the regional specialties, do a little bird watching, or simply laze around with a good book.
Seven rooms with high-quality bed linens, locally woven blankets of llama wool, and a choice of pillows, woven ponchos and baskets made by local craftspeople, old sepia photographs, and lovely bathrooms with power showers, soft towels and locally sourced herbal toiletries. Five rooms are in the main house and there are two independent cottages in the gardens, each with private patio. The finca is family-friendly and there is a two bedroom room perfect for families.
Children are welcome, and the owners have two of their own who live next door. There are plenty of toys for children to use and dogs to play with. Cots are available free of charge. Rooms 4 and 5 (a double and twin on the ground floor) share a bathroom and private patio, and can be booked as a single unit, ideal for a larger family party. Suite 3 can take an extra bed. Children's meals are available at the finca too.
In-room massages and beauty treatments can be arranged on request; cooking classes take place in the Finca’s kitchen.
Library of books, CDs and DVDs, in-room spa and beauty treatments, lounge and free WiFi throughout. In rooms, free bottled water and handmade local bath products. An unheated pool commands majestic Andes views in the finca’s gardens, complete with big-cushioned recliners and wooden decks.
Cookery classes, bird watching, walking, horse riding (can be arranged with a local gaucho) and 4x4 trips that can be arranged into the high deserts of the Andes.
