LUMA Casa de Montana has been beautifully designed to create a luxurious and peaceful space from which to explore the Argentine Lake District. There are just eight suites, each unique in their design and all enjoying views of Nahuel Huapi lake. Very much a hotel for adults, there are no children permitted under the age of 16, making it an ideal choice for couples and honeymooners. The hotel is named after a 600 year old myrtle tree (scientific name Luma Apiculata) on the lakeshore in front of the hotel.
Each of the suites has been meticulously designed to ensure every comfort has been considered, and all are vast, with the smallest junior suite measuring 45 square meters. Three of the premium suites have terraces where you can while away an hour or two taking in the views of the Andes over the lake.
There is a beautiful spa here, with sauna and an indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool with sundeck. Dining is also a real highlight, with a new menu devised daily based on using the freshest produce and creating culinary treats and surprises. A sommelier is on hand to pair your dishes with an impressive selection of wines from the cellar. Room service is also available if you'd prefer a little privacy.
In the cooler months, curl up by the roaring fireplace in the lounge, take refuge in the quiet reading room, or enjoy a game of pool. In the summer, soak up the sunshine on the terrace or in the pretty gardens.
There are three categories of room - one junior suite, four premium suites and three premium suites with terrace. Each has its own style and character, with bursts of colors set off against natural wooden floors and polished stone walls. You'll find comfortable armchairs that beg to be lounged in, beautiful one-off pieces of furniture and all the mod con's such as WiFi, satellite TV, fluffy bathrobes and hairdryer.
The hotel only accepts children aged 16 and over, so this is not the best option for families traveling to the Lake District.
You can choose from any number of activities to explore the stunning mountain and lake terrain in the area. Take a yacht to sail on the lake, or explore the shoreline in kayaks. For more of an adrenaline rush, head to the hills on foot for some spectacular hiking, or on mountain-bike if you prefer. Fishing is superb, here too. In the winter months, it's also possible to ski and snowboard nearby.

When to go
The best time to visit the Lake District is between November and April when temperatures are at their warmest. December through February is peak summer and when the region is at its busiest. For those keen to ski then Argentina's winter from July to September is the best time. Temperatures are much colder. The Lake District is particularly beautiful in spring (October) and autumn (March). These months tend to be milder than during the height of summer and quieter.
