The best time to visit the Lake District is between November and April when temperatures are at their warmest. December through February is peak summer and when the region is at its busiest. For those keen to ski then Argentina's winter from July to September is the best time. Temperatures are much colder. The Lake District is particularly beautiful in spring (October) and autumn (March. These months tend to be milder than during the height of summer and quieter.

The setting of Correntoso Lake & River Hotel is truly magical, overlooking Lake Nahuel Huapi in Argentina's breathtaking Lake District. Correntoso is an excellent base for many outdoor activities in this beautiful corner of Patagonia.
Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and lush forests, the Correntoso Lake & River Hotel is ideally located at the mouth of the Correntoso River where it enters Lake Nahuel Huapi at the foot of the Andes, making it a great point from which to experience the charm and stunning wilds of Patagonia.
Since 1917, when the only access to these remote corners of Patagonia was by boat or seaplane, the visionary pioneer Primo Capraro, enchanted by the magnificent scenery, built a small wooden cabin frequented by friends, visitors and fly-fishermen. Thereafter it grew by stages into this excellent and extremely comfortable hotel, which has a very homely feel to it.
The 49 rooms and suites at Correntoso have panoramic windows with spectacular lake views and feature fine woodwork, elegant, comfortable furnishings and many modern in-room amenities.
The dining at Correntoso is first class. The Gourmet Restaurant serves a delicious afternoon tea with homemade pastries and chocolate whilst evening meals feature Mediterranean inspired local cuisine in an elegant view setting. Puerto Correntoso offers a more casual al-fresco dining experience with views over the lake.
For some luxury pampering take time out to rejuvenate the senses at the Herbal Hammam and spa, inspired by the local surrounding and using natural Patagonian products. Alternatively for something more active take a dip in the pool or enjoy some of the many activities on offer including trekking, boating, rafting, horseback riding, fishing, skiing, snowshoeing (in season), with gourmet picnics or complete asado (Argentine barbecue) lunches included on most tours.
Correntoso Lake and River Hotel has 49 comfortable rooms and suites , most of which have stunning views over the lake. The rooms are decorated in warm earthy tones with fine wood furnishings and all have king beds, WiFi and cable television.
Children are welcome at Correntoso. There is a dedicated family restaurant and babysitting can be arranged on request. A Lake Superior Room connecting with a Junior Suite provides ideal family accommodation. There are also plenty of soft adventure options in the surrounding area that all the family can enjoy.
Correntoso has excellent facilities including an indoor/outdoor heated pool, a relaxing herbal hammam and spa and a cosy lounge and wine bar. The hotel has two excellent restaurants, the Gourmet Restaurant serving a fusion of Mediterranean and local Patagonian cuisine and Puerto Correntoso offering more casual fare on a deck overlooking the lake.
Guests at Correntoso can enjoy relaxing spa treatments and swimming in the hotel pool in addition to hiking, sailing, mountain biking, kayaking and horse riding in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. Fly-fishing, for which this region is well known, can be arranged with professional guides. In the winter months the Cerro Bayo ski center offers opportunities for skiing and snowboarding.

Large lakeside hotel, one of the oldest in Patagonia. Beautiful views of the lake as well. It has its own restaurant and dock for people to enjoy during the summer time but the town of Villa la Angostura is not far away. Good place for families to come as they have a play room and babysitting. Rooms are comfortable, clean, polished but not over done. The feeling of a 4 star wooden ski lodge.
I couldn't miss the Seven Lakes Drive, one of Argentina's finest drives, which twists and turns for 110km through forests and alongside lakes, each prettier than the last, like a breathtaking Imax tracking shot. The drive ends at Villa la Angostura, an upmarket resort for wealthy Argentines. Here, the charming Hotel Correntoso maintained the style of a 1930s hunting lodge, except that bathrooms were sublime and every bed had stunning lake views. Correntoso's guides were experts: Max took me by boat to the diminutive national park Bosque los Arrayanes long after the commercial tours had left. We alighted in a forest of cinnamon colored tree trunks twisted like barley sugar, in an other-worldly peachy light. That night I swam in Correntoso's infinity pool: seamless with the navy blue lake beyond, though, thankfully, much warmer. Could lakeside lodges get better than this?.
On a bluff overlooking Lake Nahuel Huap, Correntoso Lake & River Hotel started life almost a century ago as a cabin for fly fishermen pursuing the areas legendary trout. Anglers still come, though the lodges original rusticity has been refined: theres now an herbal hammam and a wine list that features bottles of Malbec from Argentinas top producers. Interiors combine cozy comfortsbeds piled high with duvets, sink-in-to-your-shoulders tubswith details that reflect the hotels forest setting, including exposed wood paneling and a stone fireplace lit with a roaring fire
The Hotel Correntoso has become one of the top small luxury hotels in Patagonia. Its blend of history, privileged natural setting, home style comfort and outstanding service makes this hotel a definite winner if you're looking for an upscale Patagonian experience away from the crowds.

Although not a true hideaway property (the main Seven Lakes road is nearby), Correntoso is an attractive log-cabin-style small hotel that has wonderful views over Lake Nahuel Huapi, and is a great option for anglers and honeymooners. I loved the library, a great spot for reading or gazing out onto the lake and mountains. Overall, it's a good place for relaxing, although plenty of adventure options exist, from snowshoeing in winter to kayaking, horse riding and trekking in the summer months.
