Description

The Palacio Duhau in Buenos Aires is a luxury hotel from the Park Hyatt group. Features at Palacio Duhau include an extensive wine cellar, superb restaurants, an exceptional Ahin Spa and the hotel's very own art gallery.

Situated in the heart of Buenos Aires, in the elegant Recoleta neighborhood, Palacio Duhau is within walking distance of many fine art galleries, boutiques and pavement cafes. This luxury hotel perfectly blends stylish architecture from the original 1932 French Duhau Palace with more recently built modern sections, all designed with comfort in mind.

The hotel is divided into two distinct sections, the modern wing containing 142 contemporary rooms that often feature views of the stunning palace building. Across the lush interior garden but also connected by interior hallways, the Palacio wing contains just 23 exclusive suites, as well as the beautiful shared spaces of the property.

The hotel features 11 categories of spacious and luxurious rooms and suites. Rooms come equipped with all of the modern amenities which one requires; from Wi-Fi internet access to butler room service. The contemporary décor and excellent service are complemented by those little extra touches such as Celedonio Loothidoy spa products, just to make your stay feel that extra bit special. The top suites located in the Palacio Wing come complete with Persian carpets, silk curtains, walk-in showers and private terraces.

Palacio Duhau features Paseo de las Artes, the hotel’s very own art gallery which showcases a carefully selected portfolio of paintings and sculptures from some of the most gifted Latin American artists. Also at your service is one of Buenos Aires’ top spas, an Ahin Spa providing rejuvenation for the body, mind and soul with its fantastic range of treatments. Alternatively one can just relax by the heated indoor pool or bask in the sun in the beautiful gardens.

The food and wine on offer at Palacio Duhau's three restaurants is of an exceptionally high standard. Dine on sophisticated Argentinian cuisine in the Duhau restaurant or take afternoon tea in the Los Salones lounge overlooking the gardens. There is an excellent wine cellar featuring superb vintages from both the best local and international wine houses, as well as a unique chilled cheese cellar and a wood clad vintage bar and smoking lounge that will make you feel like you are stepping back in time to a bygone era.

Located in the posh Recoleta neighborhood. The hotel is divided into two parts and is connected with an underground "tunnel" and the garden area in the middle. The larger part of the hotel is contemporary, sleek. I was upgraded to a Park suite which had a living room area and a seperate area for the bed. The staff was all very welcoming and helpful. I had some time to enjoy the pool at the spa which is a large lap pool. It was a bit crowded and there was someone doing their swimming lessons there. The Palace part of the hotel is classically decorated and it has the feeling of staying in an actual palace. This area of the hotel only has 15 or so rooms and is often booked, so must be secured well in advance. I think this hotel is a great, reliable option in Recoleta.

Situated right in the middle of the Recoleta District, this is a combination of opulence and minimalism set in lush gardens overlooking the old Vatican Palace and the original colonial part of the hotel. The two terraces offer wonderful opportunities for alfresco dining, cheese and wine tasting with a tango show; the Oak Bar with its amazing panelling resembling an old gentlemans club is a perfect place for a cocktail, there is a cheese room and incredible vinoteca with over 3,000 bottles of wine plus the Ahim Wellness Spa and its 25m pool. The bedrooms and suites are peaceful sanctuaries decorated both in the old colonial style and more cutting edge modernism in the new part of the hotel and this is a perfectly located spot to discover Buenos Aires.

I stayed at the Palacio Duhau in 2008 and its classic style with lashings of vintage glamour and contemporary elegance really blew me away. It is located on Avenida Alvear, the equivalent of Londons exclusive Knightsbridge and surrounded by lavish shops such as Armani and Hermes. I couldn't help but feel like I'd landed in the most exclusive of all Buenos Aires' postcodes. The modern Posadas wing is very different to the main Palace building and a totally different architectural style but it does bring the hotel into the 21st Century and the hotels state of the art facilities and level of service are impeccable. I tend to prefer the smaller boutique style of accommodation however if you are looking for a grand and opulent hotel with all the bells and whistles then look no further - the Palacio Duhau is the new Alvear Palace but without the chintz.
