A real slice of Argentina. El Ombu de Areco is an idyllic countryside retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, where you can relax in a peaceful and tranquil environment, whilst enjoying delicious food and wine.
Located in San Antonio de Areco, birthplace of the gaucho tradition and less than a two-hour drive from Buenos Aires, Estancia El Ombu de Areco is a real refuge from the hustle and bustle of the capital. The original late-colonial style mansion is still standing, renovated on the inside but with many of its original touches. The estancia still raises cattle on its 750 acres, and offers an intimate setting where you can spend your time exploring the area on horse-back, relaxing by the pool and dining on traditional Argentinean dishes. El Ombu has 12 spacious and modernised bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, large windows and an interesting collection of period memorabilia and furniture.
There is a large common room with a TV, plenty of board games and a billiards table where guests can mingle and relax. Succulent home-cooked Argentine fare is served in the charming dining room accompanied by local wines. No stay will pass without at least one asado, a typical Argentinean barbecue featuring some of the world’s finest beef raised free-range on the estancia. In the summer, lunch is served al fresco in the shadow of a great ombu tree. If you are looking for a slice of real Argentina, El Ombu provides a perfect fit.
Within the estate is a ten-acre park, planted with majestic trees and flowers, and containing streams and lagoons that harbour a rich diversity of bird species. The estancia still raises cattle and guests are welcome to take part in the stock-rearing activities such as milking and branding, to name but a few. Explore the area by horse or horse drawn carriage. Alternatively, relax by the swimming pool, play volleyball, football or ping pong or go for bicycle rides. Polo and golf can also be arranged on request. Twenty kilometres from the estancia sits historic San Antonio de Areco, a picturesque pampas pueblo, which is a great place to visit to further understand the gaucho culture.
From the creators of the hugely popular ‘Argentine Experience’ & the chefs of Buenos Aires' Uco Restaurant and Butterfly in Bariloche, Fogón offers a new way to experience the flavours and traditions of the typical Argentine 'asado'.
