To start planning your vacation to Sundial Lodge

Sundial Lodge takes its inspiration from the grand mountain lodge style, and offers guests a choice of hotel style accommodation or a more independent condo style property. It enjoys a fabulous location right next to the Red Pine Gondola, taking guests straight to over 4000 acres of terrain and some of North America's best skiing. Canyons Village is just a few moments away, whilst right outside, there's a parade of restaurants, bars, shops and ski hire.

Recently renovated to a very high standard, it has quite an English style, with all the rooms and suites being smart and well appointed. This is an ideal resort for families and groups of friends, with good facilities. There's a huge heated outdoor pool, whilst on the roof there's a large hot tub and plunge pool. Breakfast can be taken at the Grand Summit, or at a restaurant at the top of the gondola. Sundial Lodge can organize a grocery shop before you arrive, so your fridge is already stocked. The concierge staff are extremely helpful, and you're guaranteed a very warm welcome. We especially like the team in the boot room. The resort also has a complimentary shuttle which can take guests to the slopes or elsewhere in Park City.

Relatively unheard of internationally, and part of the Park City ski area, Canyons Village is Utah’s best kept secret, with over 10m of snowfall annually. It is the state's largest single ski and snowboard resort and has seen a huge amount of investment over recent years, with luxury hotels and express lifts. Formerly an old mining region, the area hosted the 2002 winter Olympics, including the Orange Bubble Express (the country's only heated chairlift). The Olympic museum is a just few minutes’ drive from Canyons Village and definitely worth a visit. The skiing is excellent for intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders with an impressive amount of accessible off-piste terrain and usually a lot of powder between the trees. Although many of the runs are steep, they are also very wide which makes it an ideal place for children to learn to ski. This is also helped by the very professional ski school and a great beginners area. The village at the base of Park City Mountain is small but it has a good selection of accommodation as well as some excellent choices of restaurants and bars - the most prestigious being the Farm. If you're staying for longer or want to explore a bit more, then the historic Main Street at Park City is only 15 minutes away by car, where you'll find a huge number of restaurants and bars as well as lots of art galleries. Canyons itself however, has more than enough to explore and has an extensive events calendar throughout the winter season.

Sundial Lodge features a selection of hotel rooms, studios, one and two bedroom suites, and two bedroom suites with additional sleeping loft and extra bath, and is ideal for the more independent skier. For comfort and space, we recommend the suites. All rooms feature relaxing oversized jetted tubs, and all suites come with full kitchens, warm fireplaces, sofa sleepers, and private balconies to take in the mountain air and sweeping views. All of the suites have beautiful full kitchens which have been fully renovated to a high specification.

Childcare is available at the well set up Little Adventures Children's Center, located in the Grand Summit Hotel for children aged from just 6 weeks through until 6 years. They organize a wide range of fun activities for children with the option to book children in for either full or half days. Lunch and two snacks are included for children booked in for full days.

Whilst there isn't a restaurant or bar on-site at Sundial Lodge, there is a host of bars and restaurants in a semi-circle right in front of the property. As the condos have full kitchens most guests will cook for themselves, you can buy groceries from the neighboring shops.

There is a fantastic outdoor pool on the ground floor and a roof top hot tub and plunge pool to ease any aching ski legs.

As Utah's largest single ski and snowboard resort, Park City has over 4,000 acres of skiable terrain, accessed by 19 lifts, 183 trails and three terrain parks. Voted as one of the top 10 ski resorts in North America, the season starts late November and extends through til mid-April with over 355" of snowfall.

A great range of activities are available in Canyons Village aside from skiing, including snowshoeing, horse drawn sleigh rides, zipling and snow tubing.

Location & Directions

Park City, Utah

Sundial Lodge is located in the Resort Village at the base of the Red Pine Gondola.

When to go

The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.
