To start planning your vacation to Tanque Verde Ranch
Just east of Tucson lies Tanque Verde Ranch, nestled within the Rincon Mountains and set against the backdrop of the Sonoran Desert, offering some of the most spectacular scenery for hiking, riding and cycling.
Tanque Verde has a rich and colorful history beginning with the Pima Indians. The Ranch is named after the 'green pool' and seasonal river that the Indians used as a source of water. Since 1908 guests have been invited to enjoy the classic dude ranch experience. Traditional adobe walls and Santa Fe architecture ensure you feel a true sense of place taking you back to the Old West during your stay.
Ideal for those looking for a real cowboy experience, the best way to explore the South Western scenery is by horseback. The ranch is able to offer the largest riding stable's in Arizona with over 180 horses and experienced wranglers on hand to advise and encourage all levels of riders. From mountain trail rides and loping lessons for beginners, to fast rides and horsemanship programs for those more advanced. For a ride with a difference there is also opportunity to partake in team penning - a friendly, timed competition between cattle and guests on horseback with the objective being manoeuvring cattle between obstacles.
Ideal for families the ranch offers a kids program from 4-11 years. Children will have fun learning to ride, discovering the Sonoran Desert and trying their hand at an American tradition known as Pickle ball - a cross between badminton and ping pong!
Although the main focus at the ranch is riding, Tanque Verde is also able to offer an assortment of activities such as Mountain biking and hiking on over 50 trails to Fishing on Lake Corchan; country dancing and even painting workshops. Guests wishing to relax in the afternoon can enjoy the indoor and outdoor pools and spa, or head to the cowboy saloon and enjoy an after-dinner prickly pear cocktail.
Tanque Verde offers simple accommodation in South-western style with five classes of lodgings, ranging from casita-style rooms with porch and open fireplace to whole Hacienda's with kitchen and Jacuzzi style bathtubs.
A combination of room types can be found on the Ranch accommodating both couples and larger families. Choose from a Salas, Casita or stay in one of the Hacienda's authentically decorated and equipped with fireplaces, Jacuzzi baths in most and sweeping views of the Sonoran Desert.
