Spring and Fall enjoy mild days and cool nights whilst the summer months from June to August provide warm to hot days and pleasant evenings. Peak time at the ranch is June through to end of August. Winter is marked by crisp days and cold evenings, with snowfall creating a winter wonderland.
If you have your heart set on a particular activity for your first day, let us book your guides ahead. There really isn't any need to plan any further though as you will go to the Rod&Gun Club and set your activities up as you wish while at the ranch. The guides and service are brilliantly flexible.
Quite possibly the finest guest ranch in the US, the Ranch at Rock Creek brings together luxury and adventure almost seamlessly. It is set in 6,000 acres of pristine Montana wilderness just waiting to be explored by couples or families alike.
Positioned in Granite County under the John Long Mountains, The Ranch at Rock Creek is stunningly located in a vast expanse of mountains, meadows, lakes and streams. It is the ideal adventure playground for those wanting to breathe in the fresh air and don their cowboy hat and ride out into the sunset.
One important thing to note about The Ranch at Rock Creek, is that everything in included, from accommodation, meals, drinks and almost all the activities you do there. The staff are a real plus point – casual yet utterly attentive.
The Ranch is centerd around the main Granite Lodge which features 9 guest rooms, the main dining room, Silver Dollar Saloon, Spa, and outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. All the rooms in the lodge are different, perfectly blending the old world with the new. Dark woods complement the neutral furnishings with the odd dash of color and period features such as leather arm chairs. Down by the creek, the 8 Canvas Cabins are adorable – and you can either ‘glamp’ for 2, or as a family with larger Canvas Cabins. There are 11 private log homes & specialty suites set all around the Ranch offering the perfect option for larger parties.
The 50 horses at the Ranch offer great riding for all standards. There are scheduled rides leaving at about 9am and 1pm which take 2 hours. There are generally 4 riders per outing with 1 Wrangler looking after you. They even size you up for your own cowboy boots. Private rides are of course possible. A great route is to head to the ‘Top of the World’ where the views simply go on forever, passing the odd elk or bighorn sheep enroute! For those less experienced, you can have riding lessons. But riding is only one of countless activities you can accomplish at The Ranch at Rock Creek. The Creek is home to countless trout, and the fly fishing here is exceptional. Head to the pistol range and try your hand at skeet shooting, hikes, mountain biking, jeep tours, winter snowmobiling and cross country skiing & archery. You can even see their own rodeo which is put on in the summer months. Return to the lodge at night and head to the Saloon for smores over a crackling fire, ten-pin bowling, and their own in-house cinema.
There is nothing quite like getting up in the morning, leaving your Canvas Cabin and walking to the Granite Lodge with views that wake you up even before you smell the freshly brewed coffee and homemade pastries. The food from chef Josh Drage is quite exceptional – 4 course dinners paired with wines, and steaks are quite simply the best you could possibly imagine.
The Ranch also has a wonderful spa, with a range of treatments to soothe aching muscles after a long ride into the wilderness.
We really do think The Ranch at Rock Creek combines luxury and adventure perfectly – the chance to get out and explore by day, but return back at night to be pampered and indulged before you set out again the next day.
There are 9 rooms in the Lodge; Winchester, Remington, Appaloosa, Palomino, Sharps, Derringer, Springfield and Colt. Colt and Springfield can be combined to form a 2 bedroom Suite, as too Derringer and Sharps. The Canvas Cabins are down by the creek and can either be for couples, or larger 2 bedroom options for families. The private log homes are all different and offer space for parties up to 15 guests - do call Scott Dunn for more information on the right option for you.
We feel the Ranch at Rock Creek offers so much for children - there is fishing, riding, shooting (even paint ball), and at night they have the pool tables, ping pong and cinema. They will simply adore this adventure playground.
They do have a set Kids Club, the Little Grizzlies is for ages 4-12 years with activities in the morning and afternoon. Drop the little ones off to explore the outdoors with the trained staff while you take a little time for yourself. One day they might be over at the Stables learning about animal care, the next could find them on the banks of Rock Creek collecting tadpoles. With so much to see and search, the technology of home will be forgotten as kids get back to nature. Themes and the topics they feature during Little Grizzlies are Rivers & Ponds - Rock Creek, its ponds and tributaries, aquatic creatures and their important to The Ranch; Cowboys & Horses: wranglers, horse care, barn safety and the life of a cowboy; Plants & Rocks: what grows and thrives in Montana’s Rocky Mountains and many more topics!
Services include wi-fi; morning and nightly turndown, room deliveries, wash & dry laundry service, stocked mini-fridge. All accommodations except the canvas cabins have air-conditioning and televisions. The Mercantile stocks beautiful gifts as well as practical ranch gear. Whilst there are a wide range of boots available and in stock, provided they have the request in advance the ranch can order you in the perfect pair of boots prior to your arrival.
The Ranch has a Spa, Swimming Pool, Saloon with Bar, Cinema, Karaoke and four lanes of Ten-Pin Bowling.
All on ranch activities are included in your stay at the ranch including: Horseback riding on trail rides, arena lessons & Rodeo every Tuesday; Fly fishing on 4-miles of private access and pristine river frontage and several private trout ponds; Shooting sporting clays/shotgun, rifle & pistol; Woodland 3-D Archery; Mountain biking on beginner and advanced trails; Hiking for all levels; Hiking; Paintballing; High Ropes Course and Little Grizzlies Kids Club and daily children's activities.
In the winter the ranch turns into a winter wonderland with Cross-country skiing, Snowshoeing, Ice skating, Snowmobiling, Snowcat tours, Sauna and Entertainment in the Silver Dollar Saloon. Scott Dunn guests will also receive one day of complimentary skiing or snowboarding at the Discovery ski area with the Ranch Ski Concierge taking care of all arrangements and gear.

This place is perfection. I have never stayed at anywhere quite like it, especially with regard to service. The first drink I had was a root beer, so they stocked my fridge with root beer without me asking; I left my book open, my glasses on the side and all of my charging cables in a mess, I came back to a wooden bookmark in my book, glasses cloth under my glasses and my cables neatly tied up with a ribbon, it's as if their staff are part of the magic circle. When the staff aren't pre-empting your every move, nothing is too much trouble when you ask something of them and it doesn't feel awkward (knowing that tips are covered in the all-inclusive rate); changing activities last minute, pulling your car around to grab something or serving you something completely off the menu, these guys will bend over backwards for you. The property itself sits on a relatively large plot but you can walk from one side to the other within about 10 minutes, the activities are numerous and of a very high quality (usually private), the facilities are all great, the food is truly exceptional (Relais & Chteaux), it has a very intimate, informal and sociable feel (you'll be sure to make friends and know peoples names by the end) and the interior is dressed in authentic western decor but in a way that doesn't look themed; I have heard people say "it looks like something from a Ralph Lauren advert" and I must say I completely agree. This is my favorite property I have ever stayed at, it's a truly faultless end-to-end experience in every aspect and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. It comes with a price tag to match, but if you can visit, you must!

My colleague Kerri and I headed up to the Ranch at Rock Creek on a slightly more chilly early October day. We had heard so much about the ranch and were excited to finally see it first hand. I think what I was most struck by when we arrived was the size of it. I expected a big, sprawling ranch but instead we were welcomed in to a small, intimate setting that immediately made us feel at home and very welcome. The ranch keeps it simple, the main dining area, lounge and all important Silver Dollar Bar are in the main building and then there are private homes scattered nearby. You then head across the river to the canvas cabins and the rod and gun club and corral where most of the activities go from. The main building always felt like our "go to" place at the beginning and end of the day and then the rest of the time was spent enjoying all the ranch had to offer.
I think my most cherished memory will be that first afternoon, we arrived just as the horses were being turned out for the night, they were so excited, the chance to gallop out freely after the day is obviously something they keenly look forward to. You could feel the excitement from them as they all ran out, they seemed happy, and that was important, witnessing something like that really did give the essence of the love and passion that goes into the ranch and everything about it. Now I'm not a rider, so I headed for the river the next day and honed some of my newly acquired fly fishing skills. My guide was patient and a really good tutor and in our 2 hour session I'd caught (and released of course) 4 fish, I was feeling pretty chuffed about that. I wasn't quite so good with the clay pigeons but Kerri was very impressive with her aim.
The food, what can I say....come hungry and with elasticated waistbands! Each dinner is a wonderful event of tastes. Small but plentiful courses that truly tantalise the tastebuds. You certainly won't go hungry here, from the morning pastries to the afternoon tea cookies and beyond, it's simply heavenly, you can see why the ranch has a Relais & Chteaux status. Finally, the Silver Dollar bar. Whilst many ranches sleep after dinner, the Ranch at Rock Creek certainly doesn't if you don't want it to. We had a fierce ten pin bowling competition the first night and the second night, we headed into the private after dinner movie screen and just relaxed in front of a great movie, with cocktails served regularly throughout.
The care and attention to detail at the Ranch at Rock Creek is what keeps guests returning and what makes this the foremost ranch experience in the USA. Is it worth the cost? Absolutely! It's an experience you nor your family will ever forget.

As soon as you enter the ranch you'll understand why it was listed by Forbes as the world's only five star guest ranch. With every whim taking care of you'll enjoy luxurious surrounds with incredible service and impeccable facilities. With activities in the day ranging from shooting to horse riding and fly fishing, and entertainment in the night in The Saloon Bar offering billiards, bowling, and a cinema screen for movie fans, you'll certainly be kept happily occupied here at all times.
With all of your food and alcohol taken care of; the dinner menu each evening will provide a 5 course feast. The Saloon bar staff will take care of you once you retire from the main dining room and will be on hand to personalize your cocktails and create decadent milkshakes for the kids.
