Downtown Manhattan’s original boutique hotel, The Soho Grand still pulls in a design-savvy clientele with its effortless and glamorous vintage New York feel, superb location in the heart of Soho, and refreshingly friendly service.
The Soho Grand is located in one of Manhattan’s most iconic neighborhoods, among the sprawling artists’ lofts and elegant cast iron architecture that are such an integral part of the SoHo’s fabric. Industrial and raw, SoHo’s reputation for creativity and culture has inspired world famous art galleries, shops, bars, and restaurants and is minutes away from many of New York’s legendary landmarks and attractions.
The hotel’s design reflects the avant garde nature of the surrounding streets, incorporating both the grandeur of the 1870s Gilded Age and the industrial chic of the 1970s, all softened by plump armchairs, silk drapes and a fascinating collection of art and photography on the walls. Ascend the glass-bottled staircase and enter the Salon, where the intricate cast-iron detailing, and the majestic masonry columns and unique flourishes make it one of the city’s loveliest hotel spaces, and a great place to catch up with the news and plan your day.
The Soho Grand’s 353 custom-designed guest rooms and suites take their cue from the public spaces and feature original furnishings in chocolate, champagne, and taupe, and an eclectic selection of artwork, wire-glass mirrors. Beds are clothed in 100% Egyptian Cotton, and there are luxurious touches such as Frette bathrobes and Malin & Goetz toiletries, while the bathrooms have playful wall coverings designed by famous New Yorker illustrator, Saul Steinberg. All rooms have flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations, complimentary WiFi and DVD players. Some of the higher rooms have stupendous views of Manhattan’s skyline to the north. Suites are equipped with 21-inch iMacs and an iPad.
Meals can be taken in the sophisticated Club Room with its ambience of downtown style and old New York gentility, or in The Yard, an outside oasis with a great selection of cocktails and grill plates, that in the evenings becomes a vibrant outdoor lounge bar with guest DJs. Try a kobe beef slider or a lobster roll, washed down with a mojito. The Grand Bar is a great place to encounter SoHo’s inimitable buzz, with a young, glamorous crowd that flocks to enjoy pre and post-dinner drinks on embossed leather bar stools and woven leather banquette seating.
