To start planning your vacation to The Mill House Inn
With a prime position just off East Hampton’s Main Street The Mill House Inn has been lovingly created by owners Gary and Sylvia Muller. From the moment you step into the original 1896 Dutch Colonial home you are welcomed into the inner circle of life in the Hamptons.
East Hampton is the most charming of the seven villages that compete for attention on the South
Fork of Long Island. Its origins according to Hampton’s folklore are based on a select few settlers breaking away from the strict rules and regulations of Southampton and creating a freer and friendlier community 30 minutes along the coast. That ethos still holds true today giving it a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and a more bohemian heart beneath its designer sunglasses and Jimmy Choos.
East Hampton Main Beach was voted the best beach in America for 2013, what makes it so special is the sense of openness the lack of crowds. Parking permits are almost impossible to come by unless you’re a local resident. A stay at the Mill House includes beach permits, boogie boards, towels and everything else that makes the perfect day at the beach. East Hampton is also perfectly positioned to explore the other villages of Bridgehampton, Southampton, Amagansett, Sag Harbour and Montauk.
The Inn itself is split into the Main House and the Back House. Each Room is individually decorated with classic Hamptons style and all with working fireplaces. Guests are free to roam the ground floor of the main house, taking a seat on the front porch to read the paper or sitting out in the landscaped gardens away from the hustle of Main Street.
What stands out most about a stay at The Mill House is the way the complete home from home feeling that the Inn’s service creates. From the moment that you enter everything you see is included. From the jars of cookies freshly baked each morning that await you on the snack counter to fridges full of fresh juices and iced tea everything is there for you to help yourself to.
Breakfasts are not to be rushed and will be one of the highlights of your stay, with freshly cooked lobster frittata and eggs benedict on offer daily. In addition to the treats that are on offer there is the essential knowledge of the staff making sure that you really get the most out of your time. East Hampton is busiest during the summer season when roads swell with traffic. If traveling from May to September when the season is at its peak and temperatures are warmest aim for midweek stays to avoid the worst of the traffic and enjoy less crowds.
Fall and Spring are a beautiful time to visit with temperatures mild and wonderful colors. From November through to March temperatures drop and the crowd becomes more local. The Hamptons experienced in the snow is a wonderful addition to a Christmas shopping trip to New York
