After opening as a show home and winning the New York State Historic Preservation Award it was then converted into a beautiful six room hotel.
The Inn is located in the sleepy hamlet of Jamesport on Long Island’s North Fork. The North Fork offers a complete antidote to the glitz and glamour of The Hamptons on the South Fork. Although only an hour’s drive from East Hampton the cultural center of Hampton’s life Jedediah Hawkins Inn feels a world away. Fields lined with pick your own farms and dotted with vineyards give way to deserted beaches and pretty harbor towns.
The atmosphere inside the Inn combines the laid back feel of the country surroundings with an artistic, bohemian style. Each room has been individually decorated by a different designer and looks out across the 22 acres of gardens and fields which surround the property. In addition to the rooms, the Inn has an excellent restaurant popular with guests traveling down from Manhattan to dine and spend a night at the inn. Beneath the Inn is the hidden speakeasy created during the prohibition era and now a wonderful informal restaurant and bar with a separate menu and a much more casual atmosphere.
The Inn works alongside 15 of the best local wineries offering guests complimentary visits and tastings which the owner Lia will help you set up that morning over breakfast. Food and wine is the real draw of the North Fork, guests should definitely explore the region and its best organic farms, vineyards and many restaurants. The small town of Greenport lies at the very point of the North Fork and was voted the prettiest town in America by Forbes in 2013. It is the ideal place to spend an afternoon ending with a local lobster roll and fresh clams at the harbor.
The Inn features five individually styled bedrooms and one suite. The décor of each being created by a different interior designer. The rooms all occupy the hotel's second floor and look out either to the fountain and drive in front or to the rolling fields behind. The Belverdere Suite takes up the entire top floor and is perfect for honeymooners with its antique bed and viewing tower which offers 360 degree views across the surrounding countryside.
Only children over the age of 12 years are welcome to come and stay at Jedediah Hawkins Inn.
The hotel restaurant features award winning farm to table cuisine from the North Fork’s best suppliers all of which is very local. It is open six nights a week for dinner and at weekends for brunch. Breakfast is served for hotel guests each morning in the conservatory overlooking the gardens or out on the terrace on warmer days, eggs are from the onsite chickens and ducks. There is a small cocktail bar for pre-dinner drinks.
In addition to the main restaurant the hotel’s speakeasy in their basement has a full tavern menu of more casual dishes and an excellent selection of local wines and micro-brewed beers. Very popular with locals the speakeasy gives guests of the inn a chance to meet and interact with locals and each other.
In addition to the standard long island activities of surfing, sailing, horse-riding and kayaking which can be found all over the region Jedediah Hawkins Inn has partnered with 15 local wineries to offer guests complimentary tours and tastings.

When to go
Long Island is at it's warmest from June to September when weekend crowds stream out from Manhattan to the beach. At this time of year aim for midweek visits to avoid the crowds and have the best access to beaches and restaurants. October is harvest time for the many wineries on the North Fork and Spring is the ideal time to visit to take advantage of the best in local produce. Temperatures drop and crowds disperse during the winter months however the property remains open year round and a stay during winter is when the snow covered countryside is at its most beautiful.
